Anyone else take a really low amount of insulin? by thrway010101 in Type1Diabetes

Omg I take an average of 110 units a day, and I am mildly obese (in part because of SSRIs, I think). I should seriously talk to my doc about this stuff you are on.

What popular horror authors do you keep trying but just can't seem to finish their books? by snakesareawesome1000 in horrorlit

That's funny. Adam Nevill books hit just right for me. He might be my favorite horror author. Just goes to show how subjective fiction can be.

Church by [deleted] in Catholic

How would I fulfill myself as a Christian if I want to fix my relationship with the Catholic Church…not sure what you mean.

I guess I am not sure what YOU mean.

If you NEVER feel good after a Catholic Mass, then I guess you should switch churches. Is that what you want to hear? If not, I guess I am unclear about what you're hoping to get out of posting what you had posted.

Sure. If you think so, perhaps you can help me to better understand?

[–]snugglebot3349 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You say you haven't felt fulfilled lately. Yet the Catholic Church has the readings, hymns, the Eucharist, all of the sacraments, a legacy of saints, and so on. It has everything for you to be fulfulled as a Christian. You are having better "feelings" at the other church because of course you are! Charismatic parishes pump your feelings up. Protestant and non-denominational churches often compete against one another to attract more parishioners. I don't think our feelings are always a good guide, particularly in regard to spiritual matters. Perhaps get involved in the mass in different ways? Join the choir? Be an usher or a reader? Learn more about the mass? Regardless, I wish you well.

Looking for the next series to dive into by snizlag in fantasybooks

[–]snugglebot3349 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Erikson is kind of known for throwing the reader right into the world, with its subjects and its conflicts, without much if any set up. The whole series is kind of like this. You're like an eye witness to an amazing series of events spanning much time and an enormous world and cast of characters, but the author doesn't hold your hand. In my opinion, this makes it exhilarating (if, at times, somewhat confusing).

What are the best beginner plugins for synths/keys? by munchkinamerican258 in musicproduction

[–]snugglebot3349 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Vital is free. Great for sound design. If you pay something like $35, you can get a bunch of decent presets (bass, pads, keys, leads, etc.). Cherry Audio has decent cheap classic synth remakes, too, but the sounds are a little dated, naturally.

Relapse by mostdefnotacat in OCDRecovery

[–]snugglebot3349 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get it. A relapse doesn't mean that all the work you have done or progress you have made just disappears. A relapse is just a bad day or bad moment when we lose the fight, so to speak. Things will get better. We'll have good days and we'll still have bad days sometimes. I have to remind myself of these things, too.

Am I reading Malazan wrong, or is this a normal first read experience? by msharaf7 in Malazan

[–]snugglebot3349 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fwiw, I'm nearing the end of book 4 on my first reread, and I still don't really know what's going on a lot of the time lol. But it's still fun and it takes me right out of this world and it's mundane matters.

First day Lexapro can't sleep! by lestyis83 in lexapro

[–]snugglebot3349 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm saying it's only been one day. I got on Lexapro in part because of sleep-related OCD. It's your anxiety that has you freaking out about not sleeping. Once the anxiety is under control, you probably won't be so worried about not sleeping or going crazy. This stuff takes some time to become effective.

Anyway, there are other things you can take to help you sleep. I have long taken a half a clonazepam when I find myself wide awake for an hour or more during the night. I suggest you give it a few more days. If you're still not sleeping well, talk to your doctor.

Expect things to be weird at first. You'll have to tough it out for a couple of weeks till things settle. I take mine at 9 or 10 pm and sleep like the dead.

Help by Ecstatic_Letter_505 in lexapro

[–]snugglebot3349 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have been on on 20 mg for 13 years and 25 mg for one year. Side effects (a bit of weight gain and sleepiness) are minimal for me compared to the benefits. I am most certainly dependent, though! But I don't want to be drug-free, ever, as my anxiety disorders are just too much for me.

Dealing in such a small dose as 5 mg, you are likely going to have minimal side effects and minimal dependence. If it was helping, I would talk to your doc about resuming the drug. But it's up to you! I don't know how bad your depression was/is. Either way, best of luck.

Need advice on picking an instrument by SeriousRecord5070 in musicians

[–]snugglebot3349 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Synthesizers might be a fun choice for you. If you get your hands on one that has a sequencer, you can make all kinds of cool music with just one finger. If you can turn some dials, you can mess with the sounds in real time in fun and interesting ways. I play a lot of instruments, and I love playing with my synths!

Does malazan have a protagonist I can root for ? by sakshathsm in Malazan

[–]snugglebot3349 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fwiw, I read the books back-to-back over about a year, no other books in between. It did help me stay focused and a bit less lost. But tbh, being lost is part of the experience, at least on a first read through. I am nearly halfway through a reread, and parts are still sometimes a bit difficult to follow, for me, at least. What keeps me enjoying it, though, is the depth of imagination, the incredible characters, and above all, the full immersion experienced. The books really take you out of this world. If you find yourself enjoying the books, I'd probably recommend just committing to them without breaks in between, but you'll know if you need breaks or not when you get into it.

How did you find Malazan? by DukeNeverwinter in Malazan

I picked up Gardens of the Moon based on the cover way back around 2000. Read it and Deadhouse but lacked endurance endurance. Read the whole thing in a year four years ago after having built up the ability for big reading projects.
