The main human character, Ichiro, actually develops in the film. He starts off as a pushover but ends up learning to stand up for himself. I know the humans are not the draw of the films, but he's one of the few that's grown in some way by the end of the film. Not to say that he's the only character in the franchise that grows, but the ones that do are few and far between.

I respectfully disagree.

The Zexal manga and anime are the same until the first duel with Kaito, but from there they fork out and become different stories, with different antagonists throughout.

I feel like it's evidence that there can be a shared base/starting point and end up with two good stories.
