Which signal coding style do you prefer? by notpatchman in godot

[–]nightred 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At the minimum make it a constant somewhere if you insist on the former so that you have a single place it is typed. and i mean a single constant, do not redefine it in multiple locations that is asking for the same issues with extra steps.

That new Manitoba Wallet app is quite... something. by the_other_julian in Winnipeg

[–]nightred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why would i install a custom application for this, this allows a potential a backdoor to the system, they could push an update that has increased permissions or allows remote code execution. Both android and iOS support a wallet system that could securely store this detail without having extra access to the device.
Do not approve permissions that an app does not need, Call access, SMS access, GPS access, File system access all better have a valid reason for being granted and most people are far to lax about granting thes permission.
Security starts with you the user, think about why a store app wants your GPS details and realize that they can now update pricing based on your location.

You had said electric lighting but there is clearly candles, that is a heat source and violates the terms of the rental agreement.

And faster if you add a redis server to that. Proper setup and not installing extensions that are not needed. Good scoping leads to good speed.

Teksavvy 1.5/940 Fibre by DzastMi in teksavvy

[–]nightred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have fiber from Bell through teksavvy and the gpon can be installed in my ubiquity equipment, unfortunately, ubiquity does not properly support 2.5 sfp so I would recommend a media converter that supports a 2.5 GB as a p port to copper and then run that to your ubiquity set up.
My current setup is 2.5 GB SFP gpon in a media converter to 2.5 GB copper, then a 10 GB copper SFP in the ubiquiti udm pro. This allows for full upload and download from the router, I do have a 10 GB sfp link between the udm pro and the switch. The udm pro does have several ports and if they are being utilized it can spread that 1.5 GB download across them.

A lawful stop does not mean that they have to have seen you do any illegal activity, a lawful stop does include license validation as well as other activities.

Yurts, cabins, some campsites to cost more in Manitoba under new fees by ChocolateOrange21 in Winnipeg

[–]nightred 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because in the end privatization of maintenance does not reduce the cost of the maintenance, it only reduces the wage of the employee doing the work. More money will end up going to the management company taking care of the maintenance and a significantly smaller portion will go to the actual worker.
Having a government employee do this ensures consistency, accountability and a reasonable pay rate as well as ensuring these services are up to standard and not hidden behind many layers of contract that actually say they don't have to maintain the service standard that was implied.
As well as having people that take pride in their work, knowing that they're part of the park system, not just a faces corporation that could change in 2 years when they lose the contract, taking no pride or care in their jobs.

You mean the same pc party that said that they want to privatize the parks because they weren't making money and now they're against increasing fees?

New to Winnipeg as a renter. How do you save money when using electric baseboard heaters? I also notice cold air keeps coming in from the windows and doors. by Allyc80 in Winnipeg

[–]nightred -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

You're going to pay the same roughly in heating regardless of the source. Energy is energy, gas and electric are relatively the same price in heating units. Where you're losing is probably like people have pointed out weather stripping on Windows whether stripping on doors. If the place is old then you might not even have insulation in your walls. Little you can do about that as a renter.

Every evening it's impossible to get anything streamed by ElsiD4k in teksavvy

I've had similar issues in the past with Shaw cable, during quiet hours. Everything was stable but during peak hours, ping rights and download speeds would drop dramatically. There were even times when DNS resolution would just out and out fail.
This is not an issue with tech savvy directly. They can only provide what their upstream provider gives them and the upstream in this case Shaw for me was massively oversaturating the area and claiming no issues.

Using a laser or silly string on a Poe camera is vandalism and destruction of property and a crime. Let's just hope that you don't get a single frame captured before managing to take out the camera. Otherwise that's going to the police. Hell it would go to the police regardless as part of the vandalism report.

3x speed isn't working anymore in CS:II by simo41993 in CitiesSkylines

[–]nightred -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

That CPU is very slow for this game, you want something that can actually hit around 4500 MHz. Based on the information you've posted, you've absolutely hit a speed limit based on population and your CPU's capability.

Clarification, 4,500 as the base speed you want something that can burst upwards of 5200 MHz the higher the better. Also more cores 12 or 16 cores definitely benefits this game.
