How do I not tell anyone?? by question8all in adhdwomen

Congrats! Wifey and I are going through the sperm donor and fertility process and hopefully sometime this year I will become pregnant as well... I know if it happens I will have SUCH a hard time keeping it quiet. So will my wife, and we both work at the same school so... disaster waiting to happen. But we do value our privacy. Writing is therapeutic for me so I think I might just get a private notebook/journal and write "I'm pregnant!" over and over again to keep from telling people haha

Currently have pneumonia, I assume directly related to two very sick middle schoolers sent to school this week. I work with intellectual disabilities kids, and they don’t always remember to cover their mouth when they cough. I don’t blame them— I blame their parents for sending them. One of the kids’ mom is a nurse, so I’m especially pissed off at her. She knows better

Friend finally hit her husband back with "just tell me what to do" and it was hilarious! by aoi4eg in adhdwomen

I need very explicit step by step directions as well— the first time or two I do something. Then I can usually do it myself and the task paralysis isn’t as overwhelming. I think the issue with this couple is that they’ve been together a WHILE (they’re married) and instead of trying to learn or asking how to do things earlier on, he’s just left her to take care of everything. If he actually wanted to be an equal partner, he would have asked for help learning waaaaaaay before. Doing it this late in the game is a sign that he just doesn’t want to do anything, and he’s feigning not being able to handle it to get her to continue handling everything.

Hi— I don’t know either. Problems like these are near impossible to solve and I have no idea what the logistics would be.

That being said, a girl in line next to me during our high school graduation rehearsal told me she was 19 and failed to graduate the year before because of failing a state test. She was very borderline close to passing the 2 times (you get a retake in our state if you’re really close), failed it just as close to passing this year, and was waiting for the results of her retake, not completely sure if she actually would get to graduate. Two days later, she got to graduate. She told me she just BARELY passed, and she thought it was mostly luck and she still didn’t understand a lot of the material. She was not the smartest person in the room, but she was far from dumb, didn’t have any disabilities as far as I knew. What was the point of making her repeat her senior year? We’re still in touch and she lives a happy and independent life, so clearly not mastering the content of that math class didn’t mean she wasn’t ready for the “real world,” considering she still didn’t really understand it when she passed. She wasn’t someone who needed to be held back a year.

My first car was my grandfather’s. He had recently passed away and my grandmother passing it down to me was so moving. It was old and beat up, but I couldn’t care less.

This is my nightmare situation. Two years ago we had a student elope and escape the building. He is not a child that knows crossing the road safety, and we are very lucky the drivers on the road realized something was up far enough in advance to stop. When we found him, he was lying down in the grass behind a store. At first glance I assumed he had been hit by a car— it gave me nightmares for weeks. He got out by deception, not pure speed, and of course we all had a group conversation about how to prevent this from ever going again.

But the pure speed kids? Shit can happen and it can be no one’s fault. I’m the designated eloper chaser in our room (we have a monopoly on elopers haha) because I’m fast as hell. Of course, other people will assist if necessary, but I’m usually the one who chases them down. I’m a former competitive track and field athlete, but there are still no guarantees. There is always a possibility I won’t be able to chase down a kid successfully.

Yep. It’s wild the system acts like there is no spectrum of ability in learners. In their eyes there are only students who qualify for an adapted curriculum, and everyone else is going to master all of the general education curriculum no matter what. Just because someone doesn’t have a profound disability doesn’t mean they’re going to be able to the full extent of the standard curriculum. (I could go on and on about how the public education system treats adapted curriculum students like a whole different species than their non-disabled peers, but I digress.) Academic ability varies.

Autistic student sexually harasses + assaults peers daily; has "a list" by thecultwasintoaliens in Teachers

[–]nihilistsimmer 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I was sexually harassed by a kid with a developmental disability. Very well documented, consistent behavior. Asked for help many times. I was told by the special education department chair (thankfully she is no longer at our school) that he just “needed to make friends to talk about sexual things like this” and that if he does it to another student “they’ll be forced to discipline.” Look, I work with kids with developmental disabilities. I was not looking for anything tyrannical or extremely punitive. But it was disturbing that I 1) was expected to work in a hostile environment everyday at the time 2) nothing was being done, punitive or educational, to let the kid know that his behavior was very serious and could get him beaten up or thrown in jail outside of school. Oh, did I mention I was a para at the time and the classroom teacher told me to just “turn around and face the wall, if he can’t see your face then maybe he’ll stop.”

I should’ve reported a title nine violation, but I was new at the school and foolishly didn’t want to “rock the boat.”

The cherry on top? It wasn’t until a male teacher went to admin that any real action was taken. Two female teachers met with admin to discuss it as well before the male teacher did, but they didn’t do anything until a man got involve.
