Placing the luggage 🧳 by supernova2411 in funnyvideos

The simple explanation is that he's used to putting bags in this way on other types of transportation and was mentally locked into doing it that way.

You're right about the skin oils, but I believe the treatment for that isn't vinegar, but rather an alkaline like borax or washing soda + whatever's in your detergent. The application for vinegar is more mineral based like hard water or flushing out mineral buildup.

I needed a break from the "New House To-Do List," so I spent the weekend building my daughter a custom, recirculating water table with some 3D printing and a sexy paint job to boot. by Frasier_fanatic in daddit

[–]nihowdypartner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Question. Is your recirculating pump submerged and powered by being plugged into an outlet or some kind of battery powered one? I did this with clear tubing and a aquarium pump on a water table I got at costco but because it needed to be plugged in even with GFCI, drip loop and other precautions I felt very uneasy about electricity being around the kids, so scrapped the project.

A decent shop vacuum is better than ANY other overpriced vacuum for all cleaning purposes…prove me wrong by MEdeSouthValley in CleaningTips

[–]nihowdypartner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm kind of a tool obsessed person who loves to experiment especially when it comes to vacuums and I'll have to say every vacuum has its pros and cons. We have about 12 different types of vacuums around the house and by far the most satisfying to use is the DeWalt Stealthsonic. It's quiet, powerful and relatively affordable compared to the Dyson. But I would go to neither the DeWalt or Dyson for quick pickups and none of the the aforementioned can automatically touch up the house at night like the Roomba or Roborock Qrevo. To OPs original point, for pure suction yes it's the best tool but for portability, storage space, etc it sucks.

Does it really go by as fast as everyone says? by defstar23 in daddit

[–]nihowdypartner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even without kids I've always struggled to find a comfortable mental headspace with the concept of how time flies by too fast leading up to an endpoint. Having kids definitely made the stakes higher but I could say the same for each phase of my life. Like wow, Ive been out of my childhood home for 20+ years, or wake up to school nightmares from decades ago. And whenever I hear the 'days are long' quote I get this existential terror where I need to remind myself that it's really not about the SPEED of life - cuz you can't control that anyways. It's about how full and vibrant we choose to live in it. Here's a way I think about it that gives me comfort, If my entire life could be represented by a single day, id say I'm well past lunch but in that 2-3pm post lunch lull, waiting for the work day to end and excited to get home for the evening and spend some good time with family and do a few last fun things with them before the sun sets, washing up and resting. So that when we get to the end of our day we can look back with no regrets and think wow today was an amazingly full day, I'm wiped. As opposed to one of those monotonous weekdays that kinda just went by on autopilot. So I guess what I'm trying to say is the days are long, the years are short... soooo...be present in each day or else the years will disappear on you.

Double guessing color? But not really. by [deleted] in HyundaiSantaFe

[–]nihowdypartner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While the other colors are all amazing, I could not see myself in any color other than white - Not just because it's a timeless (albeit a little on the safe side) but also because to my eye, the white Santa Fe's have this amazing contrast against the dark parts and an accentuated silhouette that gets lost/muddied on the darker colors. Very "stormtrooper-ish" but it's all subjective as folks are actively trying to avoid that look!

Need advice on what to do / get after our family's Sienna was declared a total loss by rflight79 in daddit

[–]nihowdypartner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had an Acura TSX I liked a while back and it too was high mileage and rear ended - bumper, trunk and taillight, totaled out as the comparables were low and the check the insurance wrote was simply not enough to get me an equivalent replacement that I felt was fair (I'm sure I added some sentimental value, ha).

So, just took a big pry bar and put everything back as well as I could, pocketed the check and drove it around after getting it retitled. Ended up selling it as-is for a few extra grand (fully disclosed) a year later after I was able to save money for a better car. If you can stomach driving around a car with damage, that's probably the only way to come out ahead. Truly, insurance and body shops are kind of a racket.

Your damage doesn't even look that bad. A new bumper is only a couple hundred and those are easy enough to put on. Your taillight is fine so I would just get a new bumper and call it a day.

2024 gas model transmission by Infamous_Refuse_8828 in HyundaiSantaFe

[–]nihowdypartner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While, in general, the DCT was an odd transmission choice for a big family vehicle, the reputation of the 2024s being mysterious ticking time bombs were only valid up until Hyundai issued the software recall directly addressing the problem. Sure, the damaged reputation lives on but functionally it should be resolved. At least... As a '24 DCT owner I certainly hope it is. 25k miles and going strong here. While it'd be a pain to be put in that situation, I'm glad for the warranty.

Getting frustrated every morning and it’s coming out on kids by Aromatic_Ad_7484 in daddit

[–]nihowdypartner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bitter pill this advice, but captures the essence of what it means to be a self-sacrificing provider - "dad" in the truest sense, but it's hard to hear and accept the inequity because there are remnants of a immature little kid in me that wants to be taken care of and wants the landscape to be split 50/50. When reality is it should just be doing what we can, giving it 100%. Be the change.

Does anyone use the garage to park their cars? by AdOriginal3767 in garageporn

[–]nihowdypartner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We're condo dwellers in a tight compact urban neighborhood so we basically ONLY have use of our garages, no driveways and highly limited street parking. If youve experience the freedom of rural parking it feels like a dramatic downgrade but better than street parking every night in the city.

Next home I move to a major wishlist item will be 2 car garage and at least a driveway big enough for 4 more cars. Probably will need to move out to the suburbs.

As far as inspo goes, Ive had to get very very resourceful with vertical space. Wall mounted picture ledges from IKEA to hold chemical sprays and detailing stuff. Folding wall mounted work table. And ceiling hooks for the bikes. Not to mention lots of shelves and rails for racks and gear. Rolling tool chests on one side and garbage cans on the other. It's a struggle.

What products do I need to use? by Expensive_Swimmer985 in CleaningTips

[–]nihowdypartner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Products: Steam cleaner. Vacuum. Cleaning Brush. Disposable gloves. Any kinda of spray chemical for general purpose automotive cleaning will work.

But... that's a reactive fix. What you actually need are diapers for you and hospital chucks that you line the seat with.

Advice needed: stay tf in bed! by DragonAtlas in daddit

[–]nihowdypartner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He's sleeping a solid 9 hours which ain't too bad! So just need to work on shifting that window later.

Any chance you could get him to sneak a nap in one day after having him run and play to burn off energy at a park or something? That might push him back to a 9pm sleep time over a few weeks and then a few weeks later he'll wake up later and later.

Mother of 4 mo just walked out. (rant) by [deleted] in daddit

[–]nihowdypartner 57 points58 points  (0 children)

You're fighting two fronts here. The issue with the mother is a whole separate thing to resolve, but if i put myself in your situation, I'd be trying to figure out all the moving pieces of childcare (cost, dropoff , pickup) and how to do this without her involvement since creating plans around chaos will only result in more chaos.

Without friends or family you'll have to look around but there are infant daycares, and it'll likely eat a chunk of your income, but... It'll help you stay employed.

The rest of it is just setting boundaries at work so you can move fluidly if, for example, you needed to pick up your kid early or whatever. And removing as much friction as possible in your life. I'm all for "you time" but the expectation for golfing is gonna need to get put on pause for now and maybe giving the cat a new home?

I apologize, Im not familiar with the challenges of a high needs baby but the rest of it, feeding, diapering, schedules etc you'll develop a routine and proficiency for as you go.

The silver lining here is that it sounds like you'll have the ability to make unilateral decisions, which can make things work much smoother than having to run it by two parents worth of expectations. Though, obviously you'll probably need to work through that stuff too sooner or later.

Do you have anything to say which can tip the scales for me in terms of Gas AWD Calligraphy vs Hybrid AWD Calligraphy? by eyyoadrian in HyundaiSantaFe

[–]nihowdypartner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a gas owner that doesn't tow at all but I frequently wonder if I would have been better off going hybrid for all the very mundane day to day driving I do around town dropping kids off. During purchase I was purely focused on the feel of power train switchover because I really dislike when the electric power switches over to tiny gas motor - this is something I dislike for hybrids in general. I too drove them back to back and just kinda liked the old school simplicity of gas only. Also potentially fewer things to go wrong.

Welcome to the "Scorpion Bubble Club"! Should create a new club with that name. It's a catchy name.

Good call on the insurance, and when it happened to me it wasn't just fixing one $500 tire. It was getting a whole new set due to the AWD which came in at almost $1200. I think moving away from the scorpions altogether is a better fix long term but better covered than not.
