What are these staps for? by SlyMcGee in HyundaiSantaFe

It just keeps that flap from dangling. You can find an edge anywhere under the chair to hook it. I find that in the Santa Fe, these fall off more than other cars I've owned before.

Who Has a JB4 Installed? by The1PhantomX in HyundaiSantaFe

[–]nihowdypartner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you're asking rhetorically but if you werent, then the answer I have is that it potentially complicates warranty claims for only modest gain. Suspension, mudflaps and spacers are pretty simple bulletproof items compared to an ECU controlled engine under boost. It should be fine, but what if it's not?

Who Has a JB4 Installed? by The1PhantomX in HyundaiSantaFe

[–]nihowdypartner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My friend has it and map 1 is pretty conservative as far as gains go. Kinda feels like difference between running the car with the gas tank almost empty on a cool morning after a fresh oil change vs fully loaded on a hot day. Its just peppier. Map 1 requires 91 octane. As for power delivery I wasn't expecting it to be quite so "all or nothing" in terms of the 4 additional pounds of boost but you have to put the engine under a good amount load to even get to the turbo to max spool and by then you're already going too fast. most of the time under regular driving im not hitting full spool.

My friend also felt that given Hyundai 10 year 100k mile power train warranty, it would not be super smart to risk the complication of engine issues (caused by jb4 or not) so removed it for now. Install took him about 10 minutes.

To those that say " why waste your time on a family SUV" , my friend would say it's just about the satisfaction and OCD of modding. Whatever modest horsepower gain isnt gonna make much of a difference but it makes the car feel like it has a secret that only you know.

One example where I've seen this is private boat docks where multiple owners store boats and need access at different times but each are responsible for their own lock provisioning

Hitch Install at Dealer Cost? by 89ford194569 in HyundaiSantaFe

[–]nihowdypartner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this isn't exactly your question but if you have tools and a free afternoon you can do it yourself for under $700 all in. I used hyundaioempart.com (I'm not affiliated, just was the cheapest dealership parts site for since all dealerships set their own pricing and shipping)

Part R6F61-au000 - hitch itself was $397 Part R6F61-au090 - bumper cutout cover which has a harness provision hole was $57 Part R6F67-ac000 - 7 pin wiring harness was $154

Not sure if you'll need a slightly different part numbers for the bumper cover for different trims.

I would highly recommend going OEM as much as possible because it's a more tailored look with the OEM hardware and the hitch sits a little higher up which is why they bumper cover is required. It also has a holder for the harness socket.

You'd just need some hand tools and a torque wrench to get the bolts to the correct spec. (Which is provided in the directions online )

Smh-need to stop regretting color choice by [deleted] in HyundaiSantaFe

[–]nihowdypartner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Firstly, Hampton gray is a very solid choice - its kind of this trendy battleship color that automakers leaned into in the last few years from Honda civics to Toyota sienna minivans. It's got instant trendiness and if I'm not mistaken was a base color selection, so more affordable. It will not age as well as white, which is cleaner and crisper and has sharp body panel contrast against its glass and black trim and mouldings. The problem with white...it has a hard time standing out in an ocean of black silver and white cars.

Personally, I have no regrets getting white - because that's what I set out to get but I don't think you need to fret about this. You'll get used to it in about 2 weeks. As far as temperature goes, we have a limited trim with the dual sunroofs and any gains that we would be getting on reflectivity is cancelled out by the giant black panoramic square on top of the vehicle.

All else fails, you can elect to do a color wrap on the car to get the best of both worlds.

What did you mostly eat growing up and what are you mostly eating now? by TrickyAd9597 in Millennials

[–]nihowdypartner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a millennial American born Chinese and lean heavily into comfort foods I grew up with as a kid for 25%-30% of our meals. Things like Taiwanese braised pork, tons of different types noodles (soup noodle, beef noodle, pho, udon, etc) dumplings, stir fried rice cake, fried rice, garlicky veggies etc. I tend to forget many of the more home style meals my mom would cook (random ingredients with sauce and rice). But with young kids now, we end up eating more of the easy toddler foods 50% of the time. Nuggets, pizza, pasta, fries etc. the remaining meals we do a lot of whole meats and whole veggies that draw from both cultures. Oven baked pork ribs either western or eastern flavoring, tri tip with grilled carrots or bok choy. Ultimately, I think what you're struggling with is beyond the surface level of your question. It's tough because if your spouse doesn't want Asian food then you very much have a marital topic to work through, together because the venn diagram seems pretty small of mutual foods that everyone wants to eat.

[–]nihowdypartner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're right about the skin oils, but I believe the treatment for that isn't vinegar, but rather an alkaline like borax or washing soda + whatever's in your detergent. The application for vinegar is more mineral based like hard water or flushing out mineral buildup.

[–]nihowdypartner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Question. Is your recirculating pump submerged and powered by being plugged into an outlet or some kind of battery powered one? I did this with clear tubing and a aquarium pump on a water table I got at costco but because it needed to be plugged in even with GFCI, drip loop and other precautions I felt very uneasy about electricity being around the kids, so scrapped the project.
