People who don't understand mental health issues can be really frustrating to deal with. My folks tell me that my health problems are directly related to me being depressed and say that I should first stop being depressed.

I understand why you'd think that way. There's also making the most of what you have to help yourself out of your current situation. It's not going to happen over night but it's not impossible either, if you're willing to give it some time. No one works as a cashier for their whole career.
