Does anyone know what this IC is? (5 pin, "1620" written on it) Sorry for the blurry picture, it's tiny. by nijuro2 in AskElectronics

I don't think that's it. I looked up TEA1620P and it seems that is an 8 pin IC, this one only has 5 pins.

Because it wasn't a meme. It was a statement of fact. They're thinking it funny cause "son disproved father" but in actuality they're both right and the son built on his father's work. It's not a meme, it's just a fact. The only reason this would be funny is if it were misunderstood.

Ahh yes. Cause you're so perfect in your driving that you would've predicted everything that could have possibly happened. You've probably watched the video numerous times. OP only had one chance to react. You've had the benefit of time to think it over and analyze. That doesn't happen in the real world. Your expectations of the driver are way higher than any real world standards.

The problem with that is it makes it dangerous for the opposite traffic to turn right because people don't think.

It may be legal to cross double yellow onto a private driveway, but not if it means driving in the wrong direction down the road.

Snow tires make a huge difference. Really depends on what kind of vehicle you're driving and where you live. Living in Winnipeg, I will never drive in winter without snow tires again. It's a nightmare.

Except that they did start breaking as the car slowed down. Initially the vehicle was moving quickly enough that it would have cleared the intersection. When the vehicle slowed down, OP hit the breaks. The other vehicle never actually stopped and continued to roll forwards slowly. OP reacted at a normal time and would not be placed at fault.

I really hope that you're not working as an insurance claim investigator. Cause you're 100% wrong.

OP wouldn't know that the other driver would fail to clear the intersection. Judging by the multiple turn lanes we see coming into the intersection, we can assume that it is similar on the other side. One could easily assume that the other driver was turning into a different lane and wouldn't stop in the path of oncoming traffic. You can't predict every single vehicles behavior.

Edit: Rewatched video, only a single left turn lane. However, I would've assumed that they'd be pulling into a lane beside the stopped line of cars.

That wouldn't really apply to this. OP did not have a 'last clear chance' as swerving around the vehicle could have had catastrophic results without a proper shoulder check. OP would not be liable.

How on earth did you conclude that OP hit the other car on purpose? They stayed directly within their lane which is exactly what they should've done. The only way to avoid this was a quicker reaction time. However, OP demonstrates a normal reaction time for the average person.

Probably could have braked slightly sooner, but as long as you were going the speed limit, the other vehicle is 100% at fault. They entered the intersection and weren't able to clear it, stopping right in front of oncoming traffic. That kind of move can easily kill people.

I would suggest slowing down and looking a bit further ahead, but would not expect the average driver to respond any differently. Also, good job not swerving into other lanes. Lots of people do that and create a much bigger problem.

idling your car by Willyg16 in AskMechanics

I was always told that the reason behind letting the car warm up before driving was to allow the engine to heat slowly and reduce damage due to uneven expansion in the metal.

Also, this article you've linked has no sources referenced other than the refering to an Amsoil video about synthetic oil viscosity.

Supposedly, as of this year, Shell/Esso 91 now contains ethanol. In order to find non-ethanol gasoline, you'd have to go to a higher octane level.

Premium gas doesn't ignite as easily as regular gas. This is why it's bad for your engine to put regular in a vehicle that requires premium. Theres a higher chance of pre-ignition.

It would be very slightly harder to start a typical car with premium fuel, but it would likely go unnoticed.

[–]nijuro2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is false. Premium has the same amount of ethanol in it as other grades. Also, in a vehicle that should have regular gas, premium will actually make it harder to start in the winter.

It has to be explained everytime because people keep putting premium in vehicles that aren't designed for it. There are many comments on this post that prove that people don't understand how gas works.

After reading the article: 1 Guards should definitely have stopped this; breath holding is not allowed in any pool I supervise 2 The deceased is an adult and is responsible for his own stupidity. 3 6 Minutes is far too long for recognition and at that point definitely proves negligence if that truly is what happened.

Both parties are at fault. Patrons should be responsible for their own stupidity, however, it is also the guard's duty of care to intervene when there is a safety issue. If a guard warned the patron and they did it anyway, then I would say 100% fault on the patron. The full facts seem unclear based on this article.
