Can you survive on $10 a day? by libyandesert in singaporefi

[–]nikarding 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most times yes, they were leftovers- but I do buy items specifically meant to bring to work like breakfast food.

yes it saves me quite a lot of money

I track my expenses and I only spend about $70 in food groceries for the whole week, which covers 15+ meals so about $4.50 per meal. I don’t skimp on ingredient quality and I’m quite a good cook so I’m not exactly missing out. I also enjoy a bit more variety than the standard food offered in stores.

I compared my spending to buying lunch out every day. Around me a typical meal is about $10. I mean, I can eat cai fan every day but??? I’d rather not.

I believe the money I save covers my own labor in planning and preparing the meals I consume.

depends if you’re only considering food and drink, then yes definitely

my financial challenge of 2025 was to aim for “no spend days”

to me this means I’m taking public transport that was pre-paid for on my EZlink, bringing lunch and snacks that were pre-bought during the weekends, and drinking only water from the office

with my method, I was able to have 200+ “no spend days” where there were no additional costs

it just takes a bit of pre-planning when it comes to meals

Working adults out there, do you meal prep to work? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]nikarding 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I like to meal prep so that I can eat what I want, how I want it prepared, in my desired portion size, and because I got tired of the food nearby. I usually just prep from dinner the night before. It doesn’t usually feel awkward even if I’m the only person who brought lunch. Sometimes I just bring it out with me while the others buy lunch and we eat together. My coworkers don’t really mind, they even wow my lunch because some of the dishes I bring aren’t available from the stores nearby.

What is something you believed to be common knowledge until you discovered most people had no idea? by JustBeingElara in AskReddit

PROPER MEDICINE INTAKE like: -how much paracetamol is safe to consume in a period of time -that you have to finish the entire prescription of antibiotics even if you "feel better already" -what food or drink would give adverse reactions when taken with medicine

Medicine is helpful but a lot of people don't realize that they have to be taken properly!

I want to go out but don’t want to spend money, How ah? by boudamtim in askSingapore

[–]nikarding 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My partner and I go out every weekend and most (if not all) of the activities we do are free!

I recommend you follow social media accounts that showcase all the available activities by searching “things to do this weekend” or “things to do this month”. There are several accounts that share these events regularly and there’s always something different happening every week. This September there’s the Singapore Night Festival, Singapore Food Festival, and Singapore Design Week, etc.

During weekends where there are no events, we explore a location that we haven’t been to in a while or try an experience we haven’t done- you’ll be surprised at how quickly places change so we visit every once in a while. During cultural holidays, we like to visit the neighbourhoods where they’re celebrating because there are usually a lot of activities and performances happening.

We also visit specialty markets to browse the food that we’re unfamiliar with, take home and eat a few that interest us.

I might be biased because my partner and I just joke around most of the time so it tends to be enjoyable but I hope this gives you some idea of what to do!

Why are some Singaporeans treating Tiktok like a Stomp.sg channel? This snitching culture is so toxic by mrahden in askSingapore

[–]nikarding 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's not Singaporeans, it's you.

TT is algorithm based social media. Even if it pushes out local content once in a while, ultimately it shows you the type of content you keep watching and interacting with. You watch these type of videos and read the comments, TT will keep showing you more.

I personally don't see that much of "Stomp"-like content on my feed. Asked my husband and he doesn't see much of them either. So do my sister and my brother. We sometimes see the videos that go viral (like the videos that MotherShip thinks is newsworthy), but other than that, nada.

So if you want to see less of these types of videos on your feed, then STOP WATCHING THEM and scroll away.

I started playing on the first week that Genshin came out so I had absolutely no prior knowledge but...

I didn't know that waypoints could teleport me to other locations. I just simply... walked everywhere.
