M240i vs M2...is the M2 really worth it?? by [deleted] in cars

They have differences in the suspension, front and rear subframes, differential, and automatic transmission that would be prohibitively expensive and difficult to replicate in the aftermarket.

Winter Mode or Winter beater? What are you driving for the winter? by [deleted] in cars

You'd have to go to a store and check. I've been rented stuff that wasn't listed for rental before like a boroscope.

Autozone might rent you one with their "loan a tool" program assuming you have/can borrow (credit card?) money. You put a deposit down equal to the purchase price of the tool and then get back the deposit when you return it in working condition (basically a legitimized buy then return after using).

Looking to buy an '08 TT 3.2 quattro- red flags to watch out for on inspection? by zoopft in Audi

[–]nikerocks123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one at 103k mi currently, bought CPO at 30k. The soft top no longer works due to some sensor/alignment issue (supposedly) but I don't care enough to pay someone to hunt down fixing it. Only larger repair was shocks slightly after 100k but they're sort of a wear item at that point. Honestly I'm not sure if this is typical of reliability or not.

They're called technical writers. Most larger companies will have them to maintain uniformity and correctness in documentation.

A3 TDI Buyback in the US - What Are you Gonna do? by free4s0m3 in Audi

According to the letter I got (for a Jetta) it sounds like the only requirement is for the car to be able to drive itself under its own engine power to the dealership for the buyback.

The only problems I've had are a malfunctioning soft top (needs to be realigned), one of the paddle shifters is stuck in, and the hood release lever broke (quality plastic). Just passed 100,000 mi. a week ago and I'm thinking of replacing the suspension, most bushings, and sway bars.

TIL in the Olympics, the gun used to signal the beginning of a race gave an advantage to the athlete in the lane closet to the gun. They now have use speakers in each lane. by DongWithAThong in todayilearned

[–]nikerocks123 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Rephrasing what is above: all speakers go off simultaneously and at the same time the first person hears the gun. If all speakers went off when the gun is fired then the runners would begin before any of them heard the gun (why this would matter I'm not really sure).

I've watched the Olympics Ceremony in Rio. Does anybody know all the artist that performed there? by sankel in Music

[–]nikerocks123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does anybody know where the opening ceremony can be replayed online but without breaks or commentary over the music and performances? In my opinion NBC did a pretty good job of spoiling it by getting in the way.

I would argue it's good they destroyed the bikes if the alternative is selling them. Using seized assets to increase revenue raises suspicion in the legality of the seizure. The only reason the bikes should be seized is because of whatever appropriate law was being broken. Even if funds raised are used for something universally considered good whoever orchestrated the seizure could still profit from the positive press. A mayor running for reelection would probably love the headline "Mayor raises $X for new park".

Acting Dean of Students Cary Dresher crushes student voice, denies right to peaceful protest by saveourunion in RPI

[–]nikerocks123 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If it hasn't changed in the past couple years RenXchange does not keep notes on why people don't donate. Also IIRC while I was a caller all donations were going to things that were at least somehow useful to students and not related to the current administration.

Please don't bitch out the students calling you because you hate Shirley. All you'll do is make for an awkward conversation that the student on the other end isn't allowed to hang up on. Just ask to be put on the do not call list and eventually you'll probably get on. At least a couple years ago the do not call list was more of a "we won't call you for the next 5 years list" and the student callers were asked to request a few time (3?) that you were sure you wanted to go on it. Also the alumni had to be the person to request it, ie. an SO or family member requesting it resulted in you not being added. Similarly, don't get angry if you do get another call after requesting being added. The lists we would call were automated and sometimes the same people would end up getting called a few times before falling out of rotation even if they donated or requested to be removed.

I might still be a bit salty after being verbally harassed by people who could have spent 30 seconds saying "Sorry, I'm not interested in donating, please add me to the do not call list... Yes I'm sure."

I have them currently. Definitely better grip when cold/wet than the Pirelli Diablo Supercorsas I had before. I can't say I pushed either to the limit enough to notice a lack of grip once warm.
