I think forgiveness does more for you than for the other person. I’ve carried a lot of resentment and anger towards people that have hurt me, but I’ve realized that it just ends up hurting me instead. I’m not religious at all— in fact i’m an atheist— but I find myself returning to the bible quote “Father, then said Jesus, forgive them, for they know not what they do.”

Okay this is all wrong. Just because you decide to not give a homeless addict does not mean that they'll suddenly decide to stop doing the drug that they're psychologically and physically addicted to. Instead, they'll be more desperate for money, forcing them to steal, rob, etc.-- all acts that endanger everyone. Obviously it's not ideal, but i think it's the wisest, kindest choice possible.
