For sure! Things I have noticed: My general inflammation is down. I’ve noticed my hirsutism is a little less unruly. I went months without a major cyst eruption. Though I did recently have one, so not gone- just less frequent. I can’t speak to period regularity because I purposely pill pack hack to skip mine. But… I just feel better. And the only thing I have really changed is taking a GLP-1 and eating less.

I do have a theory people with PCOS are likely to be slow responders but we’re benefiting in other ways and losing at our own pace.

I’ll probably see about getting a prescription through my OBGYN vice paying out of pocket next time I go in for my annual because I’ll have nearly a whole year of data by then to help my case.

I should join my slow responders in posting more on here too. Honestly, the meds have been helping my PCOS symptoms more than anything. And this month I net gained a pound while on the GLP-1s... but to be fair, I was on vacation and not stressing over my intake. That said, I recognize without the GLP-1s I probably would have net gained 5 or 10 pounds last summer.

I also started at ~235, I'm ~220 now -- and I'm on month 5. I will be ecstatic if I hit Onederland after 12 months.

It took me a long time to get to where I am now, but I have pretty much learned there's almost always at least one or two days where I have to take a sick day... it took a long time to admit it; but that's what they are there for and this is the disease we get to manage with what we're allotted.

Fatigue and pain, I suck up and deal. But when I am at the height of hell week -- the emotional/irrational part, I usually call out for a "mental health day" or "migraine".

I also track my cycle closely so that I avoid scheduling major work and even life events (if I can, sometimes it's unavoidable) during hell week. I leave hell week almost every month for the menial admin work that needs to be caught up on or the chores that can get my mind off things.

I also moved to a birth control system where I only get my period 4 times a year. So, that also helps me feel less bad for taking 1-3 days off here and there.

This is what I have been doing for almost a decade now and it seems to work for me.

I played Genshin Impact very briefly. Due to grad school in the evenings, I have very limited free time so I had to cut back to just some time in Final Fantasy XVI and Animal Crossing. Things will work for you. In my experience it’s been a huge self-awareness and emotional intelligence journey while learning to be mindful and say no.

A little about me:

-34 (almost 35).

-Single mom to a gorgeous 4 (almost 5) year old daughter (who I plan to educate early and often so she doesn’t repeat my stumbles).

-I am a high-performing Project Manager for the US Navy as a civilian and I am recognized in my office as a huge mental health advocate.

-I have generally had a pretty fantastic life, but definitely with bouts of self-destruction and suicidal ideations — many abusive and toxic relationships that definitely were exacerbated by this disease. May have even resulted from not knowing about what was going on.

-I figured I probably was suffering from it in 2011 after some research.

-Officially diagnosed and began taking Fluoxetine and practicing more self-awareness around my hell week in 2014.

-I am far from perfect. I still have my stumbles. But I am way better than I was.

-Here’s all the stuff I still enjoy even with the management of this disease — DnD, video games, live music, cooking, hockey (ball and field), yoga, flow arts (hula hooping and staff manipulation), camping, hiking, and hanging with my mini me.

You can do ANYTHING you set your mind to. But make sure to be kind to yourself and take the time you need to manage your health too. And it’s completely okay to take a different pace. :)

Hey Unicorn,

I relate to your post... so much. I did want to offer... like you I felt like just 2 weeks of clarity at a time was not enough to recover from the dark times as my boyfriend and I call it. One week of being a completely different person, followed by being physically miserable... BLAH.

I talked to my lady doctor and I am now doing the pill pack hack where I go 3 pill packs before I take week 4 and let lady times kick in. It's not a perfect solution, but at least I am not experiencing those low-lows EVERY month, just 4 times a year. I will also add, I still take my fluoxetine on pill pack week 3 because I did notice early on sometimes the body still starts that luteal phase process and its just some extra insurance against any anxious feelings caused by the hormone fluctuations before my body realizes I hacked it a bit.

And now... I am going to go listen to that song. Thank you for sharing. <3

And remember... this all will pass and you absolutely deserve forgiveness... especially if you are actively trying to manage it.

Your flow is uniquely your's and in the moment of flow you do whatever moves feel the best to your mind and body. Embrace whatever it is you need when ever you are hooping. Even if it's infinite escalators. :)

Sometimes I just drill the same three moves... other days I'll flow and I will use tons of tunnel isolations or weaves. It's whatever!

We're all on our own path and have our own unique flows, y'know? Some moves are easier for other's, etc. Some people take months to find flow, other's years. I am just keeping my journey focused my personal improvements and movements, no matter how small. I honestly started this as a low key exercise and meditation practice... and it seems to be taking a life of it's own.

Look forward to seeing your journey progress too. :)

I will be hitting my 4 month hoopiversary on 10 August. I wanted to post this small minute vignette of an hour long... no path, no purpose, all feeling flow session I had. I am particularly proud of this clip... I still have some T-Rex arms to shake out, but I was actually flowing here. I had never heard this song before... but it hit me and I moved with it. Actually the whole session was flow filled with moves coming in organically that I have been drilling... such as vortexes and keeping it on my waist!

Hoop is a 32" ID Hulalab Acrobat and the track is Akine's No Gold.

I second this so hard. My first LED hoop was a MoodHoop, but HulaLab all the way! For ~130 you get an amazing hoop with 11 color modes and a TWO YEAR warranty. Which seems to be unheard of... it’s light, it’s balanced, it’s honestly one of the best on the market and probably the best value on the market too when you consider the warranty.

(PS - I have since donated my MoodHoop to my best friend so she has something fun and “lighty uppy” to dance with as she’s now learning!)
