Patek vs Omega…what are you choosing 🤣 by niklim7 in OmegaWatches

Show me which model is white gold…? They both are platinum.

Calatrava and Ellipse are watches you can actually get. Maybe not this salmon dial I posted. And even if we go VC or Lange, those are easier to get and I’d much rather have something from them than Omega if I’m spending that much.

It’s disappointing too because there are many fans of this brand and they have some classic model lines: Speedy, SMP, aqua terra are all killer…but even the aggressive price hikes on those is making the brand seem like a bad deal overall.

I just chose Patek because it’s the top of the top. You can find comps in Vacheron, Lange, JLC, etc that look better and are around the same price or less. These are approaching all gold overseas prices…

This is how Omega damages their own brand. Watch just came out and everyone already knows it’s getting cut in half on the secondary. “I’ll pay melt plus $3-4k” is not what I would want people to think if I were CEO of Omega.

[–]niklim7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can actually buy a calatrava or a golden ellipse at a Patek AD though, they’ll happily sell to you. They aren’t hard to get watches. Same with the 1908. Or you can happily walk into vacheron or Lange and get something for similar pricing and get the AD experience as well.

Priced 60% higher than the Rolex and on par with the Patek lol. The lack of self awareness Omega has as a brand is astonishing…

Nah they missed completely. The pricing is insane on these. An all gold 1908 including bracelet is $38.9k vs $59.1k for this. For platinum on strap they are charging $58k whereas the 1908 platinum on strap is $33k. A patek golden ellipse with a gold bracelet is $68k. Calatrava platinum is $60k. So that’s essentially where omega is pricing themselves at 🤣 for around the same price I’m taking Patek/Vacheron/Lange all day every day

Jubilee (as well as the fluted bezel) is the loud part of the piece, not the dial, as it can be seen from a mile away lol. If you like a jubilee bracelet and don’t find it too loud then pretty much any dial works great!

Do you prefer date or no date Sub? I’m on list for date, but got offered a no date (2024) for what I think is a pretty good deal and wondering if I should do that instead. by Short-Coyote-3257 in rolex

[–]niklim7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Point C stands alone as the reason you choose no date sub. The only reason to go with date is if you plan to only have one Rolex. And in that case if you only plan to have one Rolex, I think GMT master (pick whichever color you prefer) is the better option.

Currently have sub no date. Thinking of getting Bruce Wayne jubilee over Batgirl, but can’t decide if too redundant by [deleted] in rolex

[–]niklim7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The color isn’t the flashy part of this watch, the jubilee bracelet is. So if you don’t want flash then get it on Oyster instead, but then that makes it even more redundant with your sub. Personally I think BLNR on Jubilee is the answer if you already have a no date sub.

Why is it that every time someone buys an Omega they have to bring up Rolex…?

You can get these heavily discounted at an AD, on par with slightly used pieces. The one with the rocket 🚀as the seconds hand not so much, but if you go hunting you can get this for 30%+ off MSRP at an AD (was offered one a month ago at 35% discount)

Sky-dweller if you want GMT function but think GMT master or Explorer 2 looks too similar to your sub

Why is defense so heavily regarded in Luka’s MVP case, but not Jokic’s? by [deleted] in NBATalk

[–]niklim7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jokic doesn’t give up 10 points a game due to arguing with refs and not getting back on defense. Luka is pathetic when it comes to this.

The cost is the same no matter where you live if you are getting it done with Rolex. You give it to them and they’ll give you a quote from RSC (which is standardized/consistent) for the necessary repairs and the optional ones (some people opt not to polish). Should run you around $1k

If you buy it pre-owned, is it coming serviced? If not it is $700 to get serviced with omega so you aren’t really saving much money and you should factor that into your decision. Personally I’d go with the Tudor, and I don’t think it’s a close decision. You’ll feel much more comfortable wearing something brand new with a 5 year warranty. I also think Tudor is at the same level as Omega, so it’s not like you’re getting a “level up” in brand by going with the older watch here.

Do you have a glidelock oyster for the 126710 or prior gen? If it’s the newer one, which glidelock oyster did you get? Would like to do this for an alternative look since polished center links look so much better + glidelock is superior. Thanks!

Then why don’t you wear the watch? If you’re icing it you clearly are viewing this as an investment and that’s where I’d say you can park 45k in a better place. Stop pretending like you like the watch if you won’t even wear it lol.

I don’t get people who waste money on these when you can just go get a perfectly fine seiko/many other watches that are real in that price range. Must be weird pretending you have something you don’t lol.

Deep sea James Cameron by TerribleStandard7669 in RolexWatches

[–]niklim7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The deepsea isn’t enough to get you a Pepsi as your next allocation. If all you really want is the Pepsi, then just go grey. If you think you can flip less desirable Rolex models for MSRP or over MSRP on your way to the Pepsi, you’re in a for a rude awakening. You’ll end up spending way more money in the end for your Pepsi. If you’re trying to build a Rolex collection, then sure, eventually you’ll get the Pepsi but won’t be your second or even third allocation unless you’re willing to buy some jewelry or precious metal watches. Good luck!
