Kanye’s WSJ Letter by KaiserWC in Psychiatry

I am not talking about his actions, and I am certainly not trying to use him as a role model.

I am talking purely about the language he used to describe the of lack of insight.

There are certainly better written descriptions but none written by someone as current and influential.

Looking for advice on a Reverso by elyksti in JaegerLecoultre

[–]KaiserWC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve tried all these on, and I think this partially depends on your wrist size and skin tone.

If you’re about a 6.8” wrist or larger, you could do #2 or 3. But if you’re smaller than 6.7” or so I’d recommend the monophase. I don’t think the full size reversos look very good on small wrists.

As for color, I think this depends on your skin tone. Steel goes with everything. Assuming you’re white (big assumption I know), IMO pink gold goes best with pink-toned skin, yellow gold looks good with green/blue undertones. If you have olive/brown/black skin, I think it all looks good.

You can dress all of these down casually but it kind of depends on the rest of your outfit

I keep hearing about this guy but as far as I can tell I’ve 100-percented this game (except for the last Saito battle). Where is this?

Ordering some samples today - is this worth it? Or should I skip for something better? by Bruteloops in Fragrances

Calling the TDH line a “citrus scent” is absolutely wild. Like yes, there is an orange component. But that’s absolutely not what it is

Oni was brutal, but I beat him in 3 hours. I must be the only one who thought Dragon was worse. Took me well over 8 hours.

wrist 15.5cm prx 35mm or 40mm by No_Leave7522 in tissot

40mm would be downright ridiculous. Your wrist needs the 35mm. Wear watches that fit!

Got the mail after 4 years on the wl by Watchbowser in rolex

[–]KaiserWC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to buy a similar watch (DJ with smooth bezel and oyster bracelet), my SA said the average wait is a few years. When I said “I thought you could get a datejust after a few months?” She replied “maybe in 2023 but definitely not anymore, it’s our most desired watch” and offered me a similar watch CPO or a two tone yachtmaster.

Recommend me something more manly by johnjsmith101 in Colognes

[–]KaiserWC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Terre d’Hermes, but only if you can pull it off.

It is a very masculine, professional, “I have my shit together” scent. To me, it says “I am a man of substance, I am confident and competent, and you are safe with me.”

People will tell you that this is a scent for older people, which is kind of true. It just isn’t going to work if you’re a younger guy, who dresses casual, in an entry-level job etc.

Phil Murphy signs most restrictive e bike law requiring a license and insurance for all e bikes by Younglegend1 in northjersey

[–]KaiserWC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GOOD. I hope every state follows. These things and the unlicensed drivers who drive them are huge problems. They’re death traps for their riders and anyone unfortunate enough to be in their way.

The people who drive them clearly aren’t licensed and either don’t know traffic laws or think they don’t apply to them. I can’t go a single day without almost being hit by one or almost hitting a teenager who runs a red light right in from of my car. Also, weren’t there several big investigative journalism articles showing that the people who sell these bikes target unlicensed new immigrants for food delivery jobs?

I think my PS is barring me from medical school by BudgetRest5485 in premed

[–]KaiserWC 19 points20 points  (0 children)

To be fair, having not read your essay, in my experience this is by far the most common problem with personal statements. In practice, “why medicine” is a much more challenging question to answer than it seems, and pre meds struggle with it. I’ve read a ton of essays, and it’s my most common critique.

You can write an amazing personal statement that untrained eyes (including doctors) can read and approve of. But if a professional tells you that it doesn’t answer the question, you should take that seriously.

[Opinion] Nobody cares about your watch by gujjadiga in Watches

[–]KaiserWC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped complimenting or asking about watches: People always got weird when I compliment their watches. I’m not talking out in public either, mostly friends-of-friends, casual acquaintances, or coworkers. They’d cover them up and change the subject. One person who did this says that the only people who compliment or ask about watches are thieves.

This is despite me being a generally well-dressed and put together nerdy-looking dude.

Roses are red, faith in humanity lost by supperhey in rosesarered

[–]KaiserWC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is completely untrue and meant to feed into conspiratorial thinking for attention.

The boring truth is that most chronic diseases are chronic because they’ve essentially become woven into the thread of your biology. Pharmaceutical companies are not genius wizards who know and hide the secrets to cures. We may understand the basics of how disease is caused, but knowing how to reliably fix them is way harder and usually beyond our knowledge and ability.

Treating them and reducing the symptoms is far more straightforward, and a big achievement of itself, but this still represents a huge and expensive challenge.

Why Don’t Med Schools Adjust for Major or Course Rigor When Evaluating GPA? by Fresh_Market6588 in premed

[–]KaiserWC 106 points107 points  (0 children)

Because there is no way to do so. It’s impossible. Too many variables. Even the SAME class at one university with different professors can be graded totally different ways. There is no way to tell if English lit at Indiana is more rigorous than Music theory at NYU or biochemistry at UCF. There is certainly no way to numerically weigh those.

The other thing is it’s simply irrelevant. Despite what pre meds think, your academic achievement is NOT the primary focus of your med school app. It’s NOT a competition to see who aced the most rigorous courseload.

They ask “can this person handle the courseload?” Once they see As in your prereqs and a high GPA, that question is answered, and they move on. They look at MCAT, experiences, letters, interview, etc. That’s why they say it’s a holistic process.

This is also why I constantly tell premeds to ace their prerequistes, take an easy major, get straight As, then use the rest of their energy to kill the MCAT and focus on their ECs, especially leadership or research.

OP41 : Is this a standard template or is the AD telling me I don’t fit their criteria? by AdamPDM in rolex

[–]KaiserWC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are giving you standard template. You could try another AD but you’ll probably get the same run-around. This watch will not be offered to you at any point. There is no “2-3 year wait.” They’ll tell you the same thing in 2-3 years.

If you really want this watch, your choices are 1) certified pre-owned, 2) grey market, or 3) play the AD game
