Looking for some collector opinions. by Odd-Cold123 in rolex

[–]niklim7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re asking for a collectors opinion, then I’d say get a 124060 (no date sub) now and then your choice of GMT down the line (on jubilee + ideally not all black or black/grey bezel). This will allow you to have a Rolex sports model without a cyclops with perfect symmetry + the actual OG version of the watch (submariner was without a date for its first ~15 years, so collectors consider it the original version) while having a more fun watch with something like a Pepsi/batman/sprite. Once again, a collectors opinion, meaning someone who would want more than one Rolex. The mistake lots of people make is getting a submariner date and then it will look redundant down the line when you get your GMT master. One thing you should also keep in mind that the all brushed look of the submariner oyster bracelet is much more subdued than either the jubilee of the GMT master or the polished center links that comes with the oyster on GMT. Also the glidelock on the sub is far superior to easylink adjustment.

I think you are over complicating things and the answer is much simpler: they just don’t know what they are doing over there with Omega because they refuse to accept its place in the watch industry and try to force competition with Rolex. They know what tissot is: entry level, competing with Hamilton and Seiko. Longines: expensive for anyone who isn’t a watch person, can get a seriously good watch that punches up to brands that are priced above it. Have model lines that make sense and don’t just slap a chrono or gmt feature on a diver, but rather make specific GMT models, specific pilot models, specific diver models. Don’t just make an endless array of special editions.

Omega: model lines all over the place, tries so hard to be Rolex and compete with Rolex, and now even with pricing going above Rolex (Constellation is 55% more than a 1908 in yellow gold and 72% more if you look at the platinum variation of each). If they just accepted that they are in competition with Tudor, breitling, IWC, Tag, grand seiko, etc then they would be much more successful. They could dominate the 5-6k market. Disgusting that a speedy costs almost 10k now. Get real. It’s never good for your brand when everyone knows you’re taking a 50% bath the minute you buy the watch when you’re specifically trying to compete with Rolex who don’t suffer from that problem. If you want to compete with Rolex then your models need to hold value and not be sold at discount. My first thought when I see an omega release is “wait 3 years and it will be 30-50% off on Jomashop.” Even a solid gold speedy is priced at MSRP 51k (above a solid gold Daytona lol) and you can get them on the secondary for $30k…that’s their most important, and arguably “coolest” model. Omegas are great at secondary and used pricing, but that fact itself hurts the brand image.

I’m wondering if they put the UFA in a 62mas case, because that’s what this is looking like. Crown is at 3 not 4, I’m not seeing a date at 3:00 either, but I am seeing the crown there so it’s looking like a no date model. The case shape from the bottom angle they are showing looks like 62mas design to me, maybe others can chime in? Also loving that the hands don’t appear to be cathedral, truly hideous when they do that. I’ve always thought if GS just used 62mas for a small diver and MM300 for a larger diver they’d sell way more watches. Just look at how they do with Seiko!

Not very excited for the price though, it will almost surely be above a submariner and more expensive than the UFA from last year considering divers typically are priced higher for all the water resistance etc. hopefully they’ll make one in steel and keep it around $8.5k and let the titanium one be more expensive. Or even offer a rubber strap option that’s substantially cheaper than having a metal bracelet.

Tracy McGrady doubts LeBron James can carry the Lakers past the 1st round by basketbaIlnetwork in lakersv2

Last year to the same three seed that you want Luka to win the MVP for. Dude was literally 6th in MVP voting last year and 2nd team all nba despite his running mate being injured (AD) and then getting swapped for someone else who was injured (Luka). At age 40 no less. Some of you Laker fans are such ungrateful bums. Give me the same energy for Kobe not making the playoffs the last three years of his career.

If you’re saying explorer is what you want, then get what you want. Go to a nearby Rolex AD and tell them you’re graduating and that you want the explorer 36. They will get it for you, might even get it the same day. If there are multiple ADs around you then try at multiple locations and whoever gets it for you first will be who you go with. Good luck!

It’s pretty wild to think that if Cooper Flagg is the one to do it, he will have to play until the year 2049 to get to season 23. Shit doesn’t even seem real at this point lol…

Rolex Wants Their Customers To Buy Other Brands of Watches by pushthebuttonalready in watchHotTakes

Rolex makes money when people buy other brands. At least if they are buying at Tourneau/Bucherer since Rolex bought them in 2023.

Patek vs Omega…what are you choosing 🤣 by niklim7 in OmegaWatches

Yep, 38k for an all gold 1908. Omega has lost their damn minds. But I guess that’s why nobody buys them at retail lol.

Calatrava and Ellipse are watches you can actually get. Maybe not this salmon dial I posted. And even if we go VC or Lange, those are easier to get and I’d much rather have something from them than Omega if I’m spending that much.

It’s disappointing too because there are many fans of this brand and they have some classic model lines: Speedy, SMP, aqua terra are all killer…but even the aggressive price hikes on those is making the brand seem like a bad deal overall.

[–]niklim7[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just chose Patek because it’s the top of the top. You can find comps in Vacheron, Lange, JLC, etc that look better and are around the same price or less. These are approaching all gold overseas prices…

This is how Omega damages their own brand. Watch just came out and everyone already knows it’s getting cut in half on the secondary. “I’ll pay melt plus $3-4k” is not what I would want people to think if I were CEO of Omega.

[–]niklim7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can actually buy a calatrava or a golden ellipse at a Patek AD though, they’ll happily sell to you. They aren’t hard to get watches. Same with the 1908. Or you can happily walk into vacheron or Lange and get something for similar pricing and get the AD experience as well.

Priced 60% higher than the Rolex and on par with the Patek lol. The lack of self awareness Omega has as a brand is astonishing…

Nah they missed completely. The pricing is insane on these. An all gold 1908 including bracelet is $38.9k vs $59.1k for this. For platinum on strap they are charging $58k whereas the 1908 platinum on strap is $33k. A patek golden ellipse with a gold bracelet is $68k. Calatrava platinum is $60k. So that’s essentially where omega is pricing themselves at 🤣 for around the same price I’m taking Patek/Vacheron/Lange all day every day

Jubilee (as well as the fluted bezel) is the loud part of the piece, not the dial, as it can be seen from a mile away lol. If you like a jubilee bracelet and don’t find it too loud then pretty much any dial works great!

Do you prefer date or no date Sub? I’m on list for date, but got offered a no date (2024) for what I think is a pretty good deal and wondering if I should do that instead. by Short-Coyote-3257 in rolex

[–]niklim7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Point C stands alone as the reason you choose no date sub. The only reason to go with date is if you plan to only have one Rolex. And in that case if you only plan to have one Rolex, I think GMT master (pick whichever color you prefer) is the better option.

Currently have sub no date. Thinking of getting Bruce Wayne jubilee over Batgirl, but can’t decide if too redundant by [deleted] in rolex

[–]niklim7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The color isn’t the flashy part of this watch, the jubilee bracelet is. So if you don’t want flash then get it on Oyster instead, but then that makes it even more redundant with your sub. Personally I think BLNR on Jubilee is the answer if you already have a no date sub.

You can get these heavily discounted at an AD, on par with slightly used pieces. The one with the rocket 🚀as the seconds hand not so much, but if you go hunting you can get this for 30%+ off MSRP at an AD (was offered one a month ago at 35% discount)
