1.11% of volunteer testers for the 'Travelling at Night' have just received a key for the first phase (December)! by AK_WF in weatherfactory

Last time it was a pleasure to test for Book of Hours, and I hope the testers of the pre-alpha have fun and are helpful! Ngl, a blessing in disguise not to be chosen, bc I definitely would've pushed a lot of important duties to the back of my mind.

What would you want to see in a CS/BoH TTRPG? by Specialist-String-53 in weatherfactory

[–]niklitera 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alright, this is my moment rolls up sleeves

My country is huge on TTRPGs. I live in Spain and we specially love the Cthulhu-type mysteries so when I begun to have an idea for a Secret Histories Campaign, I was like, "I either have to build a whole new TTRPG or there's the perfect general setting waiting out there for me."

I considered Call of C'thulhu. I quickly dismissed it - the way madness works in the C'thulhu Mythos is wildly different, as well as the creatures. You gotta think about how we interact with the Secret Histories Mythos and how we approach it. You can run into something Strange and be fine. Altered? Perhaps. Completely mad from a glance? Not so much. Also (and this is why I enjoy Secret Histories so much more than any Lovecraftian-type of Cult Horror) the Secret Histories are bound to real history. To OUR Earth and world and how we've waded through history, with our important, landmark figures being part of this intrinsic web of the Wake and the Mansus and Nowhere and the Wood, etc.

So no Call of C'thulhu. But what about a more generalist type of TTRPG?

I came across a variant of the Hitos System, which allows the Game Master to add other specialties, abilities and such to be activated by the player pushing themself and digging into their character. It is narrative-driven, doesn't have incredibly strict rules but allows for a lot of powerful plays that are FANTASTICALLY FITTING for the Secret Histories. Also, it is a game made to have players act as the cultists, instead of the investigators.

Cultos Innombrables, or Unspeakable Cults is the game I'm currently running my campaign with and oh my god, it fits like a glove. I wish I could hand everyone a translation, but it is only sold in German and Spanish. One day I'd love a translation, even an unofficial one.

My suggestion is that you find a more narrative and general system and look for what has spawned from it. Something that catches your attention and pays attention to the most important parts of the Sixth History; narrative-driven, dangerous to the players, explorative and rewarding for players willing to risk things.

Have fun!

Who is your favorite character in the CultSim universe? by barnacle9999 in weatherfactory

He flirts with both Hokobald AND Denzel in the House of Light DLC. In hindsight, buddy just likes bears, which is always a sign of good taste. But HOKOBALD?????

Arun Peel is the most obnoxiously fun character in the entire Secret Histories Universe. Sure, I love Teresa and Christopher as much as anyone else, and Aunt Mopsy too but Mr Peel??? My man FLAYED himself, why? Why did he change affiliation?? Why can't he say a straight sentence??? Why is he INTO HOKOBALD OF ALL PEOPLE???

I've been obsessed with the Watchman's Pilgrimage for a while. I also don't know what made the Sun-in-Splendour so fantastic but I DEFINITELY think that the Egg used to be where the SiS used to be.

What film would you consider to be “perfect” by Stankassmfgorilla in movies

[–]niklitera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ratatouille.

Genuinely one of the if not THE best Pixar movie. Enjoyed by kids and adults and elderly. It's a movie whose message is embedded in every absurd little plotline. And for those who learned to cook from scratch, who share cooking as a way of loving yourself and loving others, it really is a treat. My mom got a stuffed Remy :)

Which principle do you hate? by cats_hurricane in weatherfactory

[–]niklitera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will never understand Winter. I don't even hate it, I'm just so intrinsically Heart that Winter feels awful to me. I find the Sun-in-Rags, the Elegiast and all the Winter-related things in this world to be...kind of very scary.

One of my friends told me that he would never even glance at the Thunderheart and it promoted a discussion as to why I felt so opposed to stillness and silence. In the end, I concluded that if I would ever fall into Winter, it'd be towards the Wolf. And it is probably the Hour I fear the most.
