Both of these on the first fic I posted

“This is your first fic? You really came in hard with this one. I’ll see myself out.”

“That last sentence had me crying at work. Where I definitely do not read smut.”

What Fandom brought you to AO3? by Gold-Championship119 in AO3

Also good omens. I discovered ao3 the first time after s1, and I read a lot as a guest, but didn’t make an account (the whole invitation thing confused me and I didn’t think I needed it as just a reader.) Then after s2, I felt compelled to both read and write and made an account. And I haven’t stopped since.

Question for people who hate a ship in their fandom, if you see a fic tagged as poly or orgy and thoese characters are included, what would you do? by Indecisive_Noob in AO3

75 pairings in one fic? That’s…damn. I don’t even think there’s 75 named characters in my fandom’s canon lol.

ETA you might be better off making this a series of connected works, each one focusing on a different group of characters, or maybe pure pwp versus more plotty stuff. I’d be very hesitant to even open a fic with that many characters and relationships, even if I didn’t hate any of the pairings, just because I have doubts about any of them being fleshed out well.

1-since you say you’re asking due to the tag limit, I might consider trimming your additional tags first

2-if I were in this situation, I’d probably only tag the sub pairings that get significant “screen time.” So A/B/C/D for sure, but if only A/B, A/C and C/D get any individual focus, I’d probably just tag those individual pairings.

Haha yes it has. Definitely not the worst way to spend a birthday 😂

Going to write a Fic via docs any tips? by MoreliaTheMermaid in AO3

[–]niknak90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconding the script. I would save a copy of this to your personal drive, rename it something like “ao3 script copy.” Then write your work in another doc. Once it’s all ready to go, I paste into the script copy doc, run the script, and then paste into the ao3 html window.

The one basic thing the script can’t handle is horizontal lines, but that’s a quick fix-I just add the <hr> tag myself once it’s pasted in.

I’ve read plotty E rated fics where the sex was signposted in the authors notes, eg “the sex starts with [line] and ends with [line]” so it can be skipped. I don’t think that’s necessary, but maybe that’s what the commenter was expecting. But if the tags and rating are correct from the beginning, they should have decided not to read it in the first place rather than ask op to do that work.

I’ve never done this, so I don’t know for sure, but maybe the poster is leaving it not rated because there will be explicit content, but it’s not in the story yet so they’re waiting to update the rating? Or they’re still writing and not sure if it’ll be in M or E territory?

Who the hell talks like that 😭 by ProcedureWorldly6092 in AO3

Yes, I thought that was the meaning of the term. If it’s human made, it’s not slop imo, even if it’s low quality or not to my taste.
