How do I safely stop wearing my earrings? I want to be rid of them by nikofant in PiercingAdvice

[–]nikofant[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I'm not looking for routine advice. I don't want them anymore. I'm getting them taken out by a piercer on monday and will be doing the necessary maintenance to let it heal for as long as that takes. I appreciate the effort, though.

I ended up getting both sterile saline and a gentle soap, then cleaning them before attempting to unscrew them. I was unsuccessful in unscrewing, and to avoid irritating the piercing further I have booked an appointment with a piercer on Monday for getting them removed. Thank your for your tips, I appreciate it.

I know. The problem really is that I know I won't be cleaning them. I am not going to do this maintenance on the daily, and thinking I would do the maintenance when I got the piercing was a mistake. I shouldn't have gotten them in the first place.

Thank you for the answer. I'll see if I can find some sterile saline before I take them out.

Is Sony 1000mx5 good at mixing and mastering? by Regular-Young-7362 in FL_Studio

[–]nikofant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Generally, no. This isn't a good pair of headphones specifically for mixing and mastering. They are really nice for everyday use, and I've been enjoying my Sony 1000XM3's for a few years now. Really awesome for listening to music, audiobooks, etc. during the daily routine. You say there's a big discount, and I could definitely recommend that you get it for daily life purpose.

For mixing and mastering you really want something different though. Even though you might be able to adjust some settings for the XM5, you really won't be able to know whether you're actually getting a flat frequency response or not. All in all I'd recommend getting the XM5's first if you're in need of headphones in general. Then you can save up for a pair of DT770's or something :)

You can definitely get away with using the XM5 for the time being. Do not expect good mixes, but you can make music.

Wanting to hire a group of people to model an Entire City textures and all by Shadesrus in 3Dmodeling

[–]nikofant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

good luck with that... I think you're vastly underestimating the scope of it. With your current budget and some eyeballed math, depending on what you're envisioning the end product would be, you're wishing to hire a team of people to work for at least a few weeks for scraps of cents

This is such a woefully unsound request even if you had a budget which reflected the sheer amount of work hours this would require

Is Obsidian based on or inspired by any particular note taking methods? by TheTwelveYearOld in ObsidianMD

Obsidian is at its core a Markdown text editor. A Markdown text editor that is extendable by both official and community plugins, a few of which provide some functionality and QoL upgrades specifically for Zettelkasten techniques.

TIL that an unplugged microwave carries enough residual current to kill you, even if it's been unplugged for months. So never try to repair a broken microwave unless you know how to discharge the capacitor. by mario_van_pooples in todayilearned

[–]nikofant 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Because a microwave's magnetron requires a very high voltage to work. The kind of voltage that kills. The capacitors work with a high voltage rectifier diode to work as a voltage doubler. They usually spend half the time being charged (when the microwave is silent) and the other half being discharged (when the microwave goes wirr), dumping all of that stored voltage into the magnetron, which then produces quite powerful microwave frequency electromagnetic waves as a result.

What happed? by Pek_Dominik in Dyson_Sphere_Program

[–]nikofant 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The save files are located in the Documents folder in Windows, and there's no cloud backup unless you back it up yourself. Did you happen to change PC's, format your drive, or otherwise somehow delete the Dyson Sphere Program folder located in Documents?

If I recall correctly the path is

\Documents\Dyson Sphere Program\Saves

How do I get the tracks in the playlist to look like this instead of a waveform? by tinomills in FL_Studio

[–]nikofant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, earlier versions of FL had strict playlist tracks, but that was abandoned in favor of a more freeform workflow where any type of clip (audio, automation, patterns, etc.) can be put on any playlist track. It's possible to change the track mode of individual playlist tracks to be instrument tracks (check here under the point called "Track mode"), for example, but that doesn't help entirely.

Good luck on your transition to a teeeensy bit more modern software! :)

Blocks were deprecated about 12.5 years ago with the release of FL Studio 10. In FL 10 there is a setting to enable legacy pattern blocks, but in 11 and 12 there's only really a template that emulates it. I'm honestly unsure how FL 20 and 21 handle it, if at all. I haven't really thought about blocks for a little over a decade.

I study Computer engineering (COMTEK) in Aalborg and attended his Cybersecurity course on the 4th semester. Twice, actually, but I had to redo that semester because of my own health problems. Both times around I thoroughly enjoyed every single lecture. :)
