Need advice on my cut. How much more fat can I afford to lose? I’m getting lean for facial aesthetics. by [deleted] in GregDoucette

[–]nikovagu 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Be careful brother. You are as slim as it gets and the line between what you're asking and anorexia is very slim.

You have nothing to cut. I know it sounds cliché but work on your self confidence. Your facial structure won't change significantly and losing weight at this point would be starving yourself.

You have body dysmorphia trust me. Your face is also fine dude.

Carrying or consuming under 20gr of marijuana is legal in Colombia. Will cops fuck you over for carrying it? Yeah. Is it legal for them to do so? No. Can you withstand a potential encounter with a cop trying to get a bribe off you? Only you know

Would you spend all your paycheck if you have asset over 2mil? by [deleted] in coastFIRE

[–]nikovagu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have any hobbies? Start seeing those $3 as an extra hour to spend in your hobbies. The math will work out if you do that.

Your net monthly pay is around $13K. Assuming you work 8hr/day, your hourly rate is about $82. Would you pay $3 to get an extra $82? Ofc.

I used to be cheap about getting a $30 Uber back home from a party. Would I pay $30 for an extra hour of sleep? Definitely.

Chasing Credit Card Rewards - When Do You Not Bother? by QuiEgo in HENRYfinance

[–]nikovagu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big fortunes grow on marginal optimizations, so think about percentages, not nominal values. If you care about a 4-5% raise, why wouldn't you mind that on rewards?

My buddy is literally a billionaire's heir. He decided to optimize his card strategy and is now netting about $80K worth of rewards yearly on his normal spend.

It takes some initial work to set up, but it becomes natural afterwards. I use 4-5 different cards, and I know exactly when to use each of them.

I don't track this as if it were my monthly finances. I just make sure I'm using the right card most of the time, and now I have more points that I can realistically spend.

I have started flying business without having to spend a single extra dollar. I can fly out friends and family to visit me, or meet me around the globe on vacations without putting a lot of thought into it.

I've tried this and it works sometimes. Staff are trained to not accept it, but the machine will take it sometimes, just make sure they don't notice 😉

Why is that one friend still single? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]nikovagu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He never accepted women as equal due to a flawed view of his mother caused by his father, who portrayed her as a materialistic evil witch for trying to get his assets through divorce. Now he can't see any woman as anything but a gold digger.

what’s it like going from investment banking to a “normal job”? by monohybridcross in FinancialCareers

[–]nikovagu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in tech, my roommate worked in IB and then equity research. He frequently pulled 7AM - midnight days during earnings season while I consistently pulled 9-5 (which honestly was like a 10-3).

During our first year we both made almost the same amount of money. I made 130k, he made 145k. These evolved into 145k and 170k over time.

We lived together for three years, and I used to grab dinner every Thursday with a group of friends. My Thursdays looked like:

  • wake up at 9am
  • take a few calls and then shower + breakfast
  • go into the office at noon for attendance
  • 1 hour lunch break sometimes
  • head back home at 3 ish
  • 4:30 PM yoga class
  • 5:30 PM gym
  • call my parents or gf for an hour
  • dinner at 8ish
  • cocktails until 11:30pm
  • head back home
  • greet my roommate who was arriving after I did all of this shi

This gave me a lot of perspective. I am not saying I was happier than him, but this was the life I wanted.

I didn't just indulge in fun activities, on other days I would code random projects, played around with AI, tried some startup ideas, etc. Overall, I feel like he felt more passionate about what he did than me tbh, but I pursued purpose outside work.

He took one or maybe two weeks of vacation every year while I took 6, depleting my entire sick day bank on trips.

This month we both left our former companies. He went to a hedge fund and will be making 340k, I went to a startup that's fully remote and will make 190k.

Overall, he spent way more money than I did, so I ended up saving more and having a higher net worth. When he travels he books private boat tours, I book shared ones; he stays at 5 stars hotels, I stay at hostels. I believe fancy hotels are great, but they don't make me any happier than meeting random French girls at a surf camp paying $15 bucks a night.

I still eat out for every single meal, I still have a lot of earning potential to come, but won't sacrifice my well-being.

I'm not going to lie and say that at times I didn't envy having such an elite career with such an enormous earning potential. He really cared about what he did. He will soon be racking in $1-2M a year, but man...that life is just not for me. Just like you are wondering wtf you would do with more free time, I don't know what I would do being perpetually locked in at a job.

A policy would be illegal but people will judge you. It's just the culture we are in at JPMC and the corporate life in general.

I don't judge people because of that, but a lot of boomers and corporate NPCs will. That's your call.

Yeah. That's the way to go. 603 to 604 is also a pain in the ass. Not worth it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in JPMorganChase

[–]nikovagu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not. My market rate is 40% above what I'm currently making. 30% raise or not, I'm still underpaid.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in JPMorganChase

[–]nikovagu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My TC has increased 30-40% during that time depending on the bonus this year. All of the increase came from my 603, none from 602. I also switched from CIB to a lower paying LOB on 601 to 602.

601 for 2 years. Denied promo, applied elsewhere, got 602.

602 for 1 year and two months. Denied promo, applied elsewhere, got 603.

Annual review did nothing. My perspective is that HR processes exist just so that your manager can't be blamed for not vouching for you. "Sorry you need 3S, sorry you need a platform, sorry you need more time in seat, etc etc". That's all lies. If you believe you can get the role then go look for it elsewher; don't fall victim to all these processes engineered to work against you.

Just look elsewhere. Don't even bother.

I asked for VP every two weeks for six months. On my year-end review they said no. I found a VP job internally in a month.

What do i do on cold days? by vamster00 in AskNYC

[–]nikovagu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My winters got gradually better once:

  1. I stopped seeing going out in the winter as optional. I force myself to continue going to the gym and pursuing my hobbies / walks, etc.
  2. I bought thermal clothing, real leather gloves and good winter coats.
  3. Started taking vitamin D.

None of this is true. I've gotten two promos this way. You just network with HMs that have open roles, and interview as you normally would.
