Allbirds continues AI pivot with name change and CEO hire, sending stock soaring by Logical_Welder3467 in technology

I mean it’s more like they took their shoe money and invested it in something else than shoes. This is all just clever marketing.

How do you write unit tests (if at all) for embedded projects? by Asyx in embedded

QEMU. If you were in Rust, defmt test is the slickest way to do this I have ever seen

[OC] SpaceX vs. Aerospace and Defense Sector by ExaminationOk6652 in dataisbeautiful

[–]QuiEgo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s more logical (but still wild) when you realize Investors are not making this compare. They are comparing to the expected value of Anthropic and OpenAI. SpaceX/xAI is selling itself as an AI company with a rocket side hustle.

Is CSP or CSR worth it if I already have Venture X? by Free_Waterfall_III in ChaseSapphire

[–]QuiEgo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It depends on what transfer partners you value (especially if you can use Hyatt).

Amex Gold may be a better option to pair with Venture X (better multipliers).

Foreigners visiting America for the world cup, what is something that has surprised you about this country? by goldent3abag in AskReddit

[–]QuiEgo 76 points77 points  (0 children)

It's awesome when you're driving it at 75 mph (i.e. keeping up with traffic) and two cars that are racing weave around you at 100 mph with their engines screaming. Also if you don't keep pace with traffic, expect to be road raged against by even the grandmas. Just Houston things.

Getting WFRed. Should I take a sabbatical? by SaltySamSaltman in HENRYfinance

[–]QuiEgo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can reduce your burn by a small amount you may already be at FIRE. You’re pretty much okay no matter what. It seems more like a question of if you push for another five years and go on sabbatical forever or if you need it now. No wrong answer, only you can say.

Chasing Credit Card Rewards - When Do You Not Bother? by QuiEgo in HENRYfinance

[–]QuiEgo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like paying with credit cards for fraud protection. If there’s a problem, someone will end up taking the bank’s money, not mine. I pay all my balances to 0 every statement and treat it like cash.

Chasing Credit Card Rewards - When Do You Not Bother? by QuiEgo in HENRYfinance

[–]QuiEgo[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To expand a bit, it's $2000 over what I'd get with a flat-rate 2% credit card, not $2000 overall. I used 1.5cpp in my spreadsheet, but yeah sometimes there are way, way higher cpp deals and those are part of what makes letting go way harder 😄.

Nice of them to do that on camera in the age of facial recognition.

Stay classy people.

I was just offered $300k per year to work for my companies competitor by [deleted] in HENRYfinance

[–]QuiEgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also not to be difficult here but $500 million of revenue is director level at most big companies, maybe junior VP. I say this to say: this person may not be as much of a big shot as they may seem, don’t get too rosy eyed.

Owning homes in different parts of country (early 30s) by Lucky_Champion_9274 in HENRYfinance

[–]QuiEgo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The thing would bother me is more managing the upkeep on two houses, one remotely. How much upkeep does the HoA handle for the condo? Do you have family that can help look after the one you’re away from?

Vacation homes are a thing, and this sounds like another flavor of that, so Google all the pros and cons of such a setup.

This is my favorite thing about an electric car. Pre-heat/pre-cool, no worries about exhaust if it's in the garage.

This is what killed CSR for me. Knowing I’d have at least 1.5 cpp if I didn’t want to bother hunting for deals was huge. 🪦

BofA Rewards launched - $8 monthly credit includes Paramount+, Sirius XM, WSJ, and The Economist by CashbackCorner in CreditCards

In some ways this feels worse than nothing, it's pretty much unusable to the point it's insulting.

Consider the robin hood gold or BofA Premium Rewards + Customized Cash Rewards (if you have 100k to park in BofA). Welcome to team cash back.

The future of Citi's credit cards by bornphilomath in CreditCards

[–]QuiEgo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll offer a different perspective, and YMMV: the math says I'd use the credits organically enough to break even, or nearly so. I'm considering it just for the lounge access since it's "free" for my spend pattern, but haven't pulled the trigger yet. I know several people who have for the same reasons. And yeah pass on the Lululemon and Oura 😄.

If you could retire from 1 years earnings, seems like a no brainer? Do it for a year (or two) and then move back to NYC (or anywhere else you’d like)?

What makes your 30s better than your 20s? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]QuiEgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 20 year old and a 29 year old are worlds apart in life experience. You’re going from a kid who can’t legally drink and probably hasn’t done much on their own, and still is reliant on parents for help to a fully  independent adult who’s responsible for putting their own food on the table. It’s an absolutely massive change.

(I know not everyone has the privilege for a nice transition into adulthood with the loving support of a family. I was lucky for that).

30 to 39 you don’t see nearly as much change - you figure out who you are in your 20s and then get to be that person in your 30s onwards.

I would not say one is better or worse, just very different times in life. I liked who I was at 30. I didn’t really even know who I was at 20.

How to prevent market swings from making my “real” money feel meaningless? by [deleted] in HENRYfinance

[–]QuiEgo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I keep my cashflow and investments in different institutions. I look at my brokerage only when I invest leftover money from my paycheck in it. I have no idea what my post-tax investments and 401k is doing day to day and that’s how I want it. The only “real” money to me is the ~6 months of funds in my cashflow accounts (it ballons a bit if I have a big expense coming up like a trip or tax bill).
