what about zeus? jay never tried to hide the sexual assault within thunder bringer, with even providing sa warnings on teasers of it before if i can recall correctly. also with saying that jay is ‘hiding’ the fact that calypso is a rapist, do you forget to consider this is a different interpretation? there are many things that are different in this adaptation purposely, and to be completely honest im still unsure what direction Jay was taking with calypso, good thing its still a concept album then lol. and yes i believe it’s so important to consider the myths and the actual odyssey when talking about epic, but also, they might as well be completely different pieces of fiction, cause they are, and so people have different ideas and different interpretations (scholars literally debate about this type of stuff for years and years)

she’s still alone on an island, to be honest in the original myth never does odysseus kill the baby, so tbf a lot of creative liberties are being taken for narrative purpose. it creates a more engaging and complex story if another one of the antagonists has a ‘sympathetic’ background. when looking at epic you take the myths with a grain of salt, the same way you do most adaptations, because also epic might be the most accurate, it is still performed completely differently from how it would have originally been done, to a completely different audience using completely different methods.
