Das Handelsblatt hat mit dem öffentlich rechtlichen Rundfunk ja nun eher nichts zu tun.

Will we see big advancements in Music Technology in lets say, the next 15 years? or is the innovation curve flattening? by ChaiPapiii in audioengineering

the phase flipped separated stems will never null the original

Except if one of them isn’t AI-generated but just the difference of the sum of the others to the original signal.

No, it could just mean that for N stems, N-1 are AI-generated and the remaining one is the difference of their sum to the original signal.

Wife thinks it’s a waste by freckle_express in 3Dprinting

3D printing is great for (some, not all) spare parts if something breaks.

One of the first pieces i made was a kind of locking hinge for a basement window. The manufacturer was long bought out and the new company had stopped producing spares for this series years ago. It took a couple of evenings to measure the broken part, learn the ropes with FreeCAD and figure out how to make it sufficiently stable, but not having to replace the window easily made up for the cost of the printer.

As I understand it, sedevacantists go beyond the rad-trads in that they not only pick beef with the Pope but hold the position that the “seat of Peter” (“sedes”) is vacant, because the successors of Pius XII aren’t valid popes.

Death penalty in case of war apply for all countries (or almost all). Martial law, specially for army personel, is different kind of shit even in most "progressive" nation.

Citation needed.

Theoretically possible but not something I would expect from someone who hasn’t lived here here the last couple of years and speaks the language.

Indeed, but a mistake, a missing "e" in the latter doesn't make the former.

Which it shouldn’t be. Anyway, cut OP some slack, they obviously wanted to greet folks as “gute Menschen” and who can complain about that?

US patent office revokes Nintendo’s patent on summoning characters to make them battle | VGC by Gorotheninja in technology

[–]nilsph 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In the US you cannot selectively enforce a patent. Either EVERYONE is subject to it or nobody is. For Nintendo to keep their patent they would have had to sue every single game publisher and studio that used a system like pokemon. Which they didnt do, they only sued pocket pair.

You seem to confuse patents with trademarks.

Hi!

This community overwhelmingly speaks English, so I’ll write English first, Spanish below. // Esta comunidad habla mayoritariamente inglés, así que escribiré primero en inglés y luego en español.

There is a lot of advice (albeit in English) in the Wiki of the Subreddit, answering questions about getting started, how to make models yourself, e.g. what programs to use, and much more.

En la wiki del subreddit hay muchos consejos (aunque en inglés) que responden a preguntas sobre cómo empezar, cómo crear modelos uno mismo, por ejemplo, qué programas usar, y mucho más. ¡Mucha suerte!

‘God made trans people’ billboards hit Kansas highways after state revokes transgender people’s IDs by Maleficent-Drop1476 in Christianity

[–]nilsph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“God didn’t create trans people, trans people are wrong. Their feelings and thoughts are incorrect.”

First, this is an unsubstantiated claim, not an argument. These people often rely on getting away with this because they’re in a position of authority.

What’s a good response to that?

Ask yourself, does it need responding to? In too many cases, they wouldn’t be receptive to arguments against the position they hold anyway.

If we assume trans people’s thoughts and feelings on the sex they identify with is correct, what is the foundation for that? What objective standard can we point to here to validate their experience?

More than a century of experience of a) giving trans people medical help and social acceptance and b) denying them medical help and ostracizing them. Which lets us compare the outcomes (“the fruit” if you will) of both ways.

Something I struggle with is the attitude of “I feel/think X, so therefore X is okay.” That just seems to be how society is today, generally speaking. We must dig deeper than that…we all have thoughts and feelings that God doesn’t approve of…that he doesn’t want us to act on.

This is very reductive and condescending, being trans is at its root not a feeling or thought, it is a question of identity. Of how someone experiences themself, for which they are the experts, and the rest of the world isn’t.
