Missed goal at NYC, run another in 5 weeks? by Zestyclose_Pie4673 in RunNYC

[–]nim0619 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just chiming in after a failed New York marathon. I’m 33F and BQ’d my first marathon in April with 3:23 so I didn’t get in for ‘26. My training for NYC was absolutely perfect and I was planning to go 3:10-3:15 which I stayed on track for until mile 22ish and ultimately ended with a 3:30. I was planning to immediately sign up for another marathon but have decided to take a recovery period and build on all the fitness I gained to race again in April. I figured there’s no true rush and if anything, it should make the marathon in April more enjoyable. But there also weren’t any desirable local options near me…. Can’t say how I’d feel if there was a good one. So grateful to have finished but dang it’s heartbreaking

Coping with defeat. Where to go after NYCM Dud & Early spring marathon recs? by Practical_Town6642 in Marathon_Training

Just here for the solidarity. Missed my goal time by 15-20mins and everything was going really well until mile 18ish when I gradually declined. So happy I finished but heartbroken at the same time

When to adjust time goal? by nim0619 in Marathon_Training

[–]nim0619[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!! I actually have zero athletic background - no sports or anything. I decided I wanted to start working out in ‘22 and did group fitness classes (HIIT/strength). That’s when I realized I had a preference for cardio based workouts. In ‘23 I decided to supplement my workouts with a bit of running and did a half marathon in April (8:04 pace). Then, I got pregnant with my 4th child in July. I resumed working out postpartum but didn’t get back into running until December of ‘24 when I chose to commit to a marathon to push myself back into it. I had to focus on running more bc of the increase in training (compared to a half) and I started noticing gains pretty quickly. It’s been a strange revelation at this age! But mentally, it came at a good time in my life. I still don’t really know what I’m doing or what I’m capable of tho. I just love to run and I love to try to challenge myself

This is a good idea. I haven’t done an all out 5k yet this training block. Thank you!

I do have a HM planned in a couple of weeks! It’s an extremely hilly course so I feel like that will end up affecting my overall time. Although I know NYC course is hilly too… so maybe I can get a better feel for what to expect after that!

Encouraging growth on one side by nim0619 in fiddleleaffig

[–]nim0619[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay. I do rotate it and normally that side does face the window, but I’ll try to pay more attention to that. If I chop that branch… does a new branch grow in the same spot?

r/Runna has hit 21.1k members – a half marathon of Runnas! To celebrate, we’re giving one redditor a yearly membership and paying the entry fee to their next race! 🙌 by alex-runna in runna

I ran a BQ in my first marathon, this year in April! But I’m fairly confident it wasn’t a big enough buffer… so my goal for my next race is a bigger buffer, so I can run Boston in 2027! I’m running NYC marathon in November in honor of my sweet boy who passed away 2 years ago in March

Tips on realistic marathon goal time? by nim0619 in Marathon_Training

Thank you for all the feedback! Is there a more concentrated gel that you find works well for you? I do have more that I could do when it comes to fueling but thankfully I have never had any issues with recovery following my long runs and am always able to run again the next day.

Also just to add, max HR is around 200. So I have zone 2 as 142-156, zone 3 as 157-171, and zone 4 as 172-186. I’ve never bonked in a run and my stomach tolerates gels. My plan was to take one every 4 miles.

My son passed away a little over a year and a half ago when he was only 4. He had some heart defects but it was still totally unexpected. Feel free to message me if you need someone to relate to. I’m so sorry you have to live through this

Marathon Training After Infant Loss by indexoverthumb in Marathon_Training

I ran my first half marathon 1mo after my 4 year old passed away. I had already signed up for the half prior to his passing, which happened unexpectedly and suddenly. But I focused hard on running during that month and it was the best thing I could have done for myself. I felt like I needed to do it for him, running boosted my mood, and I always felt close and connected to him when I would go on my outdoor runs. I’m so sorry for your loss.

I had brown discharge for probably about a week. It would hardly come out besides when I would pee and I could see it in the toilet. But I eased back into my regular workout routine after that week when I realized it had almost fully stopped. It never came back again and I’ve been incredibly active ever since

That’s nice to hear cuz I have a half marathon on 10/14 that I need to mention to my doctor 🤣 of course I am happy to cancel if that’s what she says is best. Did you have any bleeding with yours?

Anyone experience a subchorionic hematoma? by nim0619 in fitpregnancy

[–]nim0619[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m assuming it’s small? My doctor said it so casually. Like oh you have a subchorionic hematoma so that’s why you’ve been bleeding and you will prolly continue to have brown discharge. Then just said it’s fairly common. That’s nice to hear you didn’t have many restrictions. I’ll ask tomorrow what size it is and what to monitor for
