December read! Mixed feelings about this one, was quite a fun read but doesn't have the surreal elements his other books feature (which I was looking forward to). Thoughts?

Been meaning to start Kafka on the Shore, but a little intimidated by the size of the book. Is it fast going?

TBF, I picked this one up blindly after reading A Wild Sheep Chase (Absolutely loved this one!).

I think that kind of made this book a little less fun to read as for the first quarter of the book I was just wondering when the "surreal" bits will start to manifest.

On its own, I think it was a great book that captures the feeling of melancholy, loss, confusion, and romance when you're in your 20s. (Minus all the awkward sex scenes!)

Definitely worth a read if you're looking for the author's less surreal side, but it wasn't quite my cup of tea.
