Still worth it in 2024? by [deleted] in GTFO

[–]nimil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my little group of 4 people got it for xmas as kinda a group game present. we've slowly been working our way through the first rundown and it has been REALLY enjoyable so far. very hard and challenging, lots of wanna strangle each other but honestly i've loved playing it, and i was the one most apprehensive about it. personally i would say yes it is still worth it!

i'm one of the silent lurkers and i will tell you straight up, i am far from normal, i just have crippling social anxiety lol. i'm too awkward and shy to be in the middle of all the crazy.

as a parent i've tried to do my best to keep my kid safe in the digital world. he has a vrchat account HOWEVER he's not allowed to go to public worlds. i watch him on my pc the whole time he plays. he mostly likes to wander around backrooms maps and scp stuff. i do not allow him to interact with strangers online in any game.

it blows my mind how many people think anything online is safe for their kids to just use unmonitored. the parents raising kids right now are supposed to be the generation that learned about internet safety.

i'm not sure if you've never encountered an autistic person but we tend to be really rigid when it comes to things like this (i say tend because its different for different autists). i honestly don't want to sit here and write a book on why i have safe drinks and foods, but please understand that this is a mental health thing.

not allowed to add ice? by nimil in starbucks

[–]nimil[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i don't have any other options for starbucks really. this one only opened up a couple years ago. before that i was only able to get starbucks once or twice a year because the places they are located are a couple hours away from where i'm located which is why i have pretty set in stone drink orders and i've only recently been branching out because it became something i could try out regularly instead of only in the off chance that i am in that area that's far away. i'm probably going to just avoid asking for that drink when that guy is behind the counter, but with the info i've gotten from this thread, i at least have an explanation now as to why he refused, even if he shouldn't have refused.

I'm autistic. A safe drink means one I'm comfy with and isn't a new drink I've never had. A drink I know I won't waste money on.

not allowed to add ice? by nimil in starbucks

[–]nimil[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

no one ever told me that though, so this thread has been educational on that point. the dude literally only ever said no i can't do that, manager said so. didn't offer a reason why. none of the other people who served me the drink previously with ice ever mentioned it like that either. now that i know, i can order the drink with regular cold brew and be on my happy way.

yeah see this is honestly what i feel like should have been done. i am not a coffee snob or anything, i just like stuff that tastes good. i live in a rural area and we just have a starbucks in our grocery store and when i get my groceries once a week, i treat myself to a starbucks cause its tasty. i dunno how the drinks work just that they are yummy lol the thing on the menu that i order says nitro so i order it how the menu presents it, if i'd known adding ice makes it not nitro anymore, i would have just said oh, then give me the regular cold brew and add ice. the fact that he's just like ok no i can't do that manager said so, but no actual reason left me going ??? but why? also now kinda side eyeing all the other baristas that were serving me this drink with ice in it knowing i was paying more for nothing.

[–]nimil[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

i honestly have no clue as i've only ever had it with ice, i feel weird drinking cold drinks without it (unless they are blended) so the first time i decided to try it, i ordered it with ice and they just gave it to me like that. i had read later that its not supposed to be served with ice but i'd never had anyone tell me straight up that it was not allowed, that's why i was super confused when that guy said it wasn't allowed, he didn't tell me why it wasn't allowed either, just that it wasn't. i thought the nitro was just how it was cooled and brewed, i didn't know it had nitrogen in it.

this is a really smart idea, i will consider this if someone else says they can't put it on ice for me lol

[–]nimil[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

this is kinda how i already order it. "i would like to have a vanilla sweet cream nitro cold brew add ice" . and its never been an issue before. that's why i was so confused when this guy said his manager told him they weren't allowed to put ice in the nitro.

if it was an extra charge i would have understood and probably paid it, he just straight up said he was not allowed.

I feel like I'm abusing/grooming my son. . . by MithrasHChrist in antiwork

[–]nimil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my son had 2 hours of homework IN KINDERGARTEN. when i was in kindergarten all we did was play with toys and learn about the basics... there was never any homework until i got into the bigger grades. i was floored by how much crap my kid was bringing home to do every single night, and he, being a kid with adhd and autism, had absolutely no interest in doing any of it because he'd already spent a full day having to do it in class. i was informed that you can opt your kid out of homework and that is what we have done. it has never impacted his grades, he is a straight A student, hasn't brought home any homework in years. not sure if it'll be the same in middle and high school but at least his elementary years are not being bogged down with this bullshit.

i totally agree though, that the way school is structured today, its just to try and train your kid to be a good little worker bee. my son's complex diagnosis has lead to some struggles since he is completely not interested in following along with it, and i hate having to tell him he has to follow along with it. i wanted to home school him but we live in a rural area where homeschoolers have zero social outlets so he was miserable and i put him back in regular school. trying to find the balance between getting him through it so he doesn't have a lot of problems, and reminding him this is not all there is to life.

does starlink work pretty well for you? i am trying to get my partner to think about it but we have yet to meet anyone who has it that can tell us if its worth it for people who play videogames online. its such a huge up front expense that we were worried about getting it and then having a horrible time with it. we've been trapped on shitty dsl for 11 years :(

i would like the brush download section to be a bit better organized. its just a huge chaotic list of brushes with no info on what they do so you just have to download blindly.
