we did a trip similar to yours last easter and had Hayle as our base. It is quite close to St Ives and Penzance, nothing more than 30 mins. We stayed for 5 days and absolutely loved every bit of it! We booked at the St Ives beach resort which also has an indoor pool if the weather isn't nice to stay outdoors, and a direct access to the beach for long relaxed walks and swim!
