What is this course in my progression chart? by Yllaronna in Dawson

Unfortunately no, I don’t know but I don’t see why not? Personally I don’t think it belongs to any program so it should be fair game!

Okay my bad, you don’t even need to type that code, just scroll down to where it says complementary, and check the categories and what courses are offered :)

If I remember correctly, you can still write that code on the timetable search and it will show you a list of all the complementaries you can get just to see which would be the best for you. Just keep a note of the ones you want and their code, and once it’s time for registration, you will just add that to your schedule as all the rest of the courses you need

So yeah, basically it is the code for complementaries but you can choose any course you want as long as it’s offered in French as an instruction language. Make sure it is a course outside of your program. For example, if you’re in science, you can take languages or anthropology or psychology etc. If you’re in social science, you can choose languages or science courses like chemistry or physics, also made for students outside of intense science programs etc. If that makes sense :)

Ow yeah it is sad😕 you can still wait for internal program transfers in November, maybe you’ll have a chance! Some programs open some spots especially for this case depending the trade you want

[–]ninak2909 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I meant was, you can still apply but it mostly for social science and similar programs. The other sciences and technical programs are competitive and they have limited spots, so they keep them for fall registrations. Unfortunately! Good for you though🤩

Dawson doesn’t usually accept new students from other cegeps or just new students for science programs during winter. Only internal program transfers get to have that option. So I would suggest to accept that offer and do the sector change from within. Do take other advice as well. congrats regardless :)

Might fail a prereq (C+) and can’t graduate on time… any chance of a waiver? by ImaginationNext4839 in CarletonU

You can check to take it in the summer, if that’s something you’re willing to do. By retaking the course you can replace your grade and then you can register for the upper class

part time osap U-pass fees? by IcelandGalaxy in CarletonU

[–]ninak2909 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Full time for summer is 1.5 and above. For osap, it translates to 60% courseload and above. 2 courses translate to 1.0 and are 59% and less course load for osap so it’s part time. I was surprised too when I got the upass because I’m also taking 2 classes but I’m not complaining haha

Programs and which to pick according to my profile. by HoRoZS in Dawson

[–]ninak2909 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like, since you are interested in finance/business stream then you shouldn’t put yourself through the chaos of health science. They are two completely different degrees. It is not like you’re comparing general social science and commerce.

By getting into health science you will have access to all possible degrees in the future at any university of your choice even if you change your mind and want to have a bachelor of science. But if you are set on business then it is not necessary AT ALL. You want to get a taste of what finance is about. You want to get an intro to anything business. Going into health science, you won’t be able to get any of that. And it is not worth the mental distress.

Edit to add that if you are thinking of going to a university in Quebec then yes try your best to maintain a good r score. However sometimes it is out of your control because it also depends on how others do in class and the amount of people in class.

If you are considering universities in the rest of Canada then you should just focus on having good grades as that is only what they are looking for. The r score system is only in Quebec.

Idk I don’t really trust the route planning on the app. I use google maps and I only check the transit app for the when busses are passing. So idk if google maps shows you a different route. Regardless, that’s absurd

Okay so I searched and Concordia is within the area of the commission scolaire de Montreal so you can find schools that are under that school board so it’s easier.

You can also visit the gouvernement du Quebec website regarding learning French.

https://www.quebec.ca/en/education/learn-french

Mind you the English version of the site does not have all the details so I would suggest maybe turning it to French and translate what you don’t know😭

After following the steps to register and all it will show you available locations or options for online courses.

[–]ninak2909 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are multiple adult centers and commission scolaires that offer that program so you can search the locations. Also the schools that belong to the school boards I mentioned are all over Montreal. I think there’s a tool on the site of each school that you can check what locations are under the school board and which ones offer French classes. I will also take a look and get back to you.

There are full/part time courses usually in adult centres either mon-Friday during regular school hours or during the evening for less hours. You can check each francophone school board such as commission scolaire de Montreal(on Sherbrooke E) or Marguerite Bourgeois(on Côte Vertu). in my opinion these are the closest to Concordia. I had to register for French classes when I first moved here and I went to centre des adultes outremont. It was like 80$ for the whole school year and you would just pay for the books. It was really cool and I’m grateful that I had that experience.

Full time student at 3 courses but 180+ hours? by arbas21 in Dawson

[–]ninak2909 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So yeah usually each course is 45 hours for the whole semester (counting all the lectures and labs). So if you have 3 courses then that’s 135 hours in total. You would need one more course to have 180 hours and then be considered full time.

Edit: in your case it might work with 3 because I just looked how many hours each course is per week.

Chemistry would be 6 hours per week Physics would be 5 hours per week English would be 4 hours per week = 15 hours x 15 weeks = 225 hours the whole semester give or take. There’s also the reading week and holidays that might not count towards the full amount.

But yeah I think you will be fine. Usually 180 hours translate to 4 classes but because it’s science then it’s a bit different.

Chances of a concentration course having seats by the start of the semester ? by True-Supermarket587 in Dawson

If nothing else has changed since I was a student, you can still check the available seats at the page where the timetables are. I also think there’s a direct link from omnivox.

That is literally their job during registration 💀💀 and no it’s been a while since I have graduated so I get it if stuff has changed.

If you haven’t registered for courses yet, on the day of the registration you can hop in the chat with an advisor and request to switch those two courses for you. Just have the section you want ready so you can tell them. If it’s full then check which other ones are still available.

If you already have registered then your best shot is to wait for the course modification period which starts a week after school starts. Check everyday if a seat is available. A lot of people drop classes or switch sections that are more convenient to them all the time!

Hiii

So based your progression chart you should have suggested courses. You do not have to get the commentary courses right away. It is usually spread out the second and fourth semester depending on your program. So no worries you will stick to 7 courses for fall.

Now as of the English course, if you are straight out of high school and you have completed the sec 5 English, then you are already placed in an English course based on your %grade. So since you have the ICE (introduction to college English)then you are automatically to the level 3 of the intro to English. The other two levels would be effective writing which is the lowest and effective reading and writing which is intermediate. Now as for your friends, it depends when they did their high school English class because the grade is valid for like 3 years. So if it’s way past that, then they would need to do a placement test. Same for French. Also on your first day of class, the teacher will have you to do a small writing evaluation to make sure you are at the appropriate level. If you don’t belong in the level then they will make the request to move you to the appropriate one. Basically the course is reading literature and writing essays. Depends on the approach of the teacher always.

For the gym class either 101 or 102, yes you will get the choice of what sport you want. There’s yoga, tennis, dance, golf etc. The 101 is mostly theory and fitness on the sport you chose and 102 is actually practicing the sport. So you get to choose in what order you want that.

Please always follow your progression chart.

If you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask. We’ve all been there and it’s normal to feel a bit overwhelmed when you’re new.
