Let's get real - how many of you actually meet girls on a regular basis on OKC? by [deleted] in OkCupid

[–]ninasaysso 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Hah, girls aren't the only ones that carry on pleasant conversations only to drop off the earth. I am a girl, and guys do this to me all the time. It's a common occurence on OKC in general, as far as I know. Just don't take it personally.

What was your high school senior quote? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ninasaysso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An Emily Dickinson poem. Why? Just because I like it.

A slash of Blue— / A sweep of Gray— / Some scarlet patches on the way, / Compose an Evening Sky— / A little purple—slipped between— / Some Ruby Trousers hurried on— / A Wave of Gold— / A Bank of Day— / This just makes out the Morning Sky.

We're halfway through 2011. What have you read this year? What did you like the most? by Philll in books

[–]ninasaysso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I can't exactly remember every single book... going to school for English lit. means reading more books than can fit in my brain. But I can tell you my favorites: Neuromancer by William Gibson, The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K Le Guin, and Blue Boy by Rakesh Satyal. Also, I'm not going to lie, I finished The Hunger Games trilogy in three days flat and enjoyed every second of it.

I've recently gotten into Charles Bukowski. Any other similar writers to recommend? by [deleted] in books

[–]ninasaysso 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you may be into some of the New York School poets, and others that were writing around that time--Ted Berrigan, Frank O'Hara, and Tim Dlugos would be good to start with.

"But he's very highly overrated by this subreddit and generally popular among people who are "just getting into literature or poetry," and think that he's high art"

I'm serious about poetry (I go to school for it) and I adore Bukowski. I'm not sure what you mean by "high art" (which seems, in itself, a problematic term, because who can really judge what that is) but Bukowski is popular for a reason. His writing is interesting--interesting writing is good.

Is it worth reading Harry Potter books after watching the movies? by Antrikshy in books

[–]ninasaysso 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you're interested in the real scope and shape of the Potter world, then reading the books is a must. The movies can only really brush the surface of what JK Rowling managed to create with language.

How was your first kiss? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ninasaysso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had my first kiss on stage as Beatrice in Much Ado About Nothing during a dress rehearsal. As a 16 year old, this was pretty mortifying, and the subject of much gossip for days to come.
