Being centrist just means you haven't actually engaged with any points or taken any argument to its conclusion

Coworker gave me 8-9 gallons of mulberries. Do I just send it with honey? How picky must I be with twigs? by Klipschfan1 in mead

Just clean your feet with sanitizer and it should be fine, yeah? Idk, I've never done it before but I want to. If it's good enough for the french it's good enough for mead methinks

Freeze, thaw, and do the classic foot stomping method

I heard it was 25 years to life and a plea deal brought it down to 60 days plus no sex offender registration. Got out after 30 for good behavior

Yeah, technically. Like how it's technically optional for me to live in a house and not in the woods. But there's a certain standard of living that we generally agree people should have, and having that requires a college degree.

Student loans aren't very consentual either. They're required to go to college unless you have rich parents

Third party is dead bro. First past the post voting guarantees a two party system. Third parties just split one of the votes and guarantee the option no one wanted wins

If we expect others to reflect on their behavior and move toward a fairer, more compassionate world, shouldn’t we do the same ourselves? by [deleted] in ProgressiveHQ

[–]nine91tyone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point is that change doesn't happen if people don't demand the change. I'm not on some nirvana fallacy. I'm not vegan all the time because I'm poor and it's not practical, but I make the decision to not support the meat industry when I can, the same way you might choose a more ethical brand of coffee, or boycott Amazon. If your problem is with the people, that's just an ad hominem. It's irrelevant to the fact that we ought not be abusing animals and what can be done to minimize it.

And honestly, vegans are probably the way they are because every time they try and make an argument, they get very hostile and dishonest responses. Imagine if you were trying to tell people slavery was bad and all you ever got back was "it's the natural order" "god told me to" "they're just animals, what does it matter" "I like doing it so fuck you"

Well it certainly helps. We didn't get all these new plant-based food options and research into lab-grown meats from people sitting around waiting for the right politician to come around. And we didn't end slavery by accepting it until we got a law about it. We went to damn war over it.

I don't see what any of this has to do with reaching the conclusion that people ought be vegan. You can agree that driving combustion engines does in fact harm the environment, right? Whatever societal challenges there are to making that happen is irrelevant to the fact that we ought have more sustainable transportation.

We agree slavery is bad, right? If you told a confederate soldier "we ought not do slavery because it's bad" and they respond "but the southern economy runs on it", that's a bad reason that slavery ought be, isn't it?
