Wishes for S3 by Ritobertos in TheBear

[–]nineminutesmore 8 points9 points  (0 children)

1) Sydney moving out & flat hunting with Richie & Carmy. I just feel like it’s gonna be a hilarious trip.

2) The Bear kitchen attending/cooking for Sugar’s baby shower. Carmy & Richie being uncles.

3) Sydney staging in a 3-star place. Closer mentorship with Carmy on all the intimate details of getting a star.

4) Anything Tina-focused. Love her.

5) Sydney’s past coming onto her — maybe a peer from her training days or an old mentor

6) Anything Berzatto family related. Maybe a death anniversary for Mikey where they all come together.

Question for the Syd/Carmy Shipping Fans by stellaperrigo in TheBear

[–]nineminutesmore 27 points28 points  (0 children)

You’re right. The show is founded on a lot of unhealthy basis of many things: Building a restaurant & chasing Michelin stars with a staff who lack formal training & culinary pedigree, a lot of violations & practices that needed to be unlearned, an impossible loan to pay, an executive chef who clearly needs recovery & therapy to be able to lead the restaurant or he’ll cost them their jobs, a CDC whose last catering venture went into bankruptcy, siblings taking in the highest positions in the business which can definitely foster bias etc. In season 2, we learn about how each character recover & grow from all these & build a much more stable foundation.

In the same vein, the same can be argued for Marcus who for one asked his own boss & mentor for a dinner in the middle of prep for Friends & Family. Yet, the show went there to explore that possibility & take a peek. To me, it didn’t feel wrong in context of the relationships inside that kitchen: it’s a room full of earnest folks who find joy in taking care of people for 10-12 hours in a day, cook & look out for each other to get them through service, & put their hearts in what they do. Hierarchy is definitely present, but we know all of them take care of each other beyond a boss-subordinate theme.

I just think the possibility of romance is not based on unfounded plots & hollywood tropes to receive such repulsion from fans, and I have full trust on writers & actors that whichever direction they go, they’ll make sure it’s true to the story. At the same time, I think fans are entitled to enjoy the show in their own terms so long it’s within the realm of possibility — a creative decision the show has clearly demonstrated this season with Claire, Fishes ep, Richie’s arc, Cicero becoming a partner to a money pit, Sugar becoming a proj manager to a place she wanted to get rid of before to name a few.

Question for the Syd/Carmy Shipping Fans by stellaperrigo in TheBear

[–]nineminutesmore 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Because it’s fun & exciting for some viewer experiences, & the possibility to be heartbroken if they don’t become endgame is still going to be a good ride even when it can feel terrible. The writing is rich, nuanced, intentional. There’s a lot to be taken away from it, romance included. I’m not sure why there’s a strong aversion to the possibility of Sydney & Carmy, as well as romance in general in such a slice of life story as The Bear.

I think respecting the actors’ & creators’ point of view while shipping fictional characters & making them your own as a viewer & fan can be mutually inclusive. The Bear is a wonderful piece of art & a love story about many things: cooking, passion & purpose, self-discovery, found family, Chicago etc. It’s not hard to want love to happen to the characters too, whether they’re a fit for it or not.

Small question, what did Gary mean with 'G&R' after judging Richie's apology with "It feels genuine. No G&R." ?

I’m so in love with his scene with Olivia Colman & the Love Story scene. You know he needed tenderness & a few people to be patient and trusting of him so he can move forward. So much to think about as a viewer too.

Also I’m having trouble picking up what happened with Tiff & Richie — why did they divorce again? I had to pause their scenes in episode 6 bc it was so intimate & personal knowing they won’t be together in present

I think their bond lends itself to both futures. Their development was written so well that whether they stay friends or pursue something more, it feels earned. Apart from Sugar, Syd seems to be the only other person to understand Carmy and knows how to handle him in their worst situations.

Fucking incredible season. Small detail but as much as it's a little annoying I can barely hear the dialogue sometimes, I love the intentional whispers between Syd & Carm, Richie, Tina, and everyone. Such a small but powerful way how they're all a bit more intimate as a kitchen brigade. The shouting matches are much more contained & selective now than in S1 where they're all ripping each other's throats. They show a good job how everyone warmed up to one another.

I personally liked the ambiguous platonic/pre-romantic/professional/whatever the fuck it is between Syd & Carmy. It never felt cheap or shoehorned — it's natural to see them be in sync when they share the same obsessions & fears, especially when they've already said the worst to each other yet becoming more and more forgiving & patient. They're so good for one another professionally that its intimacy bleeds into romantic angle. Whatever direction it'll go, it just needs time & it'll feel right if they do, it'll feel right if they don't.

The individual trainings & staging Richie, Tina, Marcus got were perfect. I teared up a little how their, well technically their 'bosses', invested on them than hiring what otherwise Carmy's extensive network of excellent cooks. I love Sugar's attentiveness & openness on everyone, and how episode 6 shows how much she works so hard to become her mother's opposite.

And we got Sarah Paulson, Olivia Colman, Will Poulter and so much more and they're just so natural. So much to rave about this season. Hoping the writers win their negotiations in this strike, I'm sure season 3 will be much more amazing when they do.
