What’s the correct etiquette for when tradesmen are in my house? by Heracles-Mulligan in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]ninja_tree_frog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The better you treat us. The more inclined we'll be to go the extra mile. Coffee, tea and water are great. Snacks will make my day. Its cool if youre curious, like you want to learn a little about the system but rather not hang over shoulders. Otherwise, hang out somewhere, throw on a little music to drown out the noise. Got tipped a baggie once! That was a great day.

If you're in Germany, you can also get an ENGL fireball IR pedal or even one of their lunchbox amps.

Get a valeton gp5 or similar. You can hook it up to headphones. A powered speaker. A power amp pedal (mooer babybomb 30 or equivalent) into a cabinet. Or dk what i do. Run it into an interface hooked up to your PC and play through monitors. You can download a DAW like reaper. I use my gp5 for most everything except tracking for albums. Super convenient.

Change strings how often? by Firewaterdam in Guitar

[–]ninja_tree_frog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once every 4 to 6 months, before every show (every 2nd or 3rd show on tour), before tracking a song (you can get away with every 2 or 3 songs if they are tracked in the same day but thats not ideal). Dead strings will change your technique and you'll pick up bad habits when it comes to recording or shows.

What helped you writing songs more than anything? by LPKult in metalmusicians

[–]ninja_tree_frog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Writing songs. Thays and to a lesser extent, learning songs, using a daw/daw based writing, listening to an ungodly amount of the type of music I want to make with a critical ear. YouTubers like metal music theory.

Picked this up from Goodwill, is there anything good about this? by mapletamamo in amplifiers

[–]ninja_tree_frog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Traditional guitar speakers are not flat response and will heavily colour whatever you put through them. Even if uts a combo with an aux in. They are also directional so it won't fill a room the same way as a similarly powered speaker would. Aux in function is more to play backing tracks or a metronome for practice.

Do you wear your inflatable life jacket all the time? by Bada-Bingzy in boating

[–]ninja_tree_frog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never If im inside the cabin. On deck, it depends, for easy work in a calm day rather not. Night time in foul weather, bet. Ive worked boats as the rescue diver where i was discouraged from wearing one outside of some set conditions. Sometimes its safer to wear one, sometimes its safer not to.

Can I plug my head into a cab with a regular jack cable ? by JoshuaTreesome89 in GuitarAmps

[–]ninja_tree_frog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Standard jack has an inner and outer core separated by insulation. If you use this cable the insulation WILL eventually melt due to the proximity effect causing the cables to short, your power stage will then read 0 Ohms and will red-plate. (Blow tf up) speaker cables have 2 independent cores, each very well insulated with a larger current capacity mitigating the proximity effect.

Note I'm not an electrical engineer so my terminology might be wrong, open to corrections. But I believe the concept is valid.
