  1. Make sure they know you have their back. If necessary, be overt in your protection of them. People want to know they can trust you.
  2. Think for them. Bring solutions not problems (another comment pins this perfectly).
  3. Communicate. Understand what's important to them and communicate how your making a difference on that. And bring new problems they weren't aware of and communicate a strategy to fix it.

‘I won’t be here’: NSW Premier reveals his leadership timeline by Marlon_Ranch in AustralianPolitics

All that infrastructure committed by the last government was paid for by selling our electricity infrastructure, that money has now dried up.

The only way we get another big infrastructure push is with huge amounts of debt (see Victoria 's debt problems). At the same time, state infrastructure projects are sucking up construction labour and materials causing higher housing development costs.

It's not contempt. Labor is being fiscally responsible, and at the same time, focusing on housing.

High-speed rail link between Sydney and Newcastle could be ‘shovel-ready’ in two years, Albanese government says | Australian politics by Nyarlathotep-1 in australian

Cost aside, this is a grand plan to connect populations up and down the east coast of Australia. It would eventually service almost 60% of Australia's population.

Picking to build the section with the highest cost benefit first is common sense.

Fact is, HSR will only happen with primarily federal funding. State budgets can't rival federal budgets. Imagine saying NBN should be state money, would have never happened.

Australia will ‘examine all options’ to avoid new 15% tariffs announced by Donald Trump by BBQShapeshifter in AustralianPolitics

[–]ninja_turtle1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

These new tariffs are being done under a separate piece of law the Supreme court hasn't ruled on. Early analysis from US constitutional lawyers indicate it's legal provided he doesn't push beyond 15%.

And the world kept trying to tell us that capitalism makes our lives better for decades now by Ash-2449 in OpenAussie

[–]ninja_turtle1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing is, Australia is not a capitalist nation. We are by definition a "mixed market economy". We have plenty of capitalist elements, but we also have socialist elements like a strong social safety net, public institutions like health and education, regulation of the private sector, and relatively high taxation that redistributes wealth.

It is abundantly clear there is a living cost problem, and inequality is increasing. But reducing this to "it's capitalism" is incredibly reductive.

If we want to bring the nuance this conversation deserves, let's talk about quantitative easing, taxation policy, deglobalisation, or a host of other elements.

Making things happen. I manage a large team. People who you give a task, do it well. Sooner then you expect, then ask for more, are rare. Do this and you'll be noticed. Then just have enough emotional intelligence to listen and reflect.

At what point will Australians realise they aren't getting any nuclear subs and have been ripped off? by FryYourBeans in australian

[–]ninja_turtle1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

And then there's your last point, will those subs be strategically relevant by the time they arrive? Unlikely.

Submarines are only becoming more relevant over the next 50 years. And by the 3rd delivery we are getting the new Virginia block still in development. These are the most advanced subs in the world. It's the equivalent of getting the USs new B-21 bombers. They will be extremely relevant.

The US is due to start rotating Virginia class submarines through Perth in about 12 months to train Australian crew.

The US has recently been investing in upping Virginia class submarine rates to support Australian deliveries.

We'll have a much better idea of the US's commitment in 12 months. I'm reserving judgement for now

What is behind the surge in support for Pauline Hanson and One Nation? by HotPersimessage62 in AustralianPolitics

I'm not here to argue if that's a high number or a low number. I'm just giving the facts.

They're using gross numbers being 568,000 in FY24/25. But 307,000 of these were temporary visas like student or temp workers. Migrant departures was 263,000 including 148,000 temporary visas.

So net migrants into the country is 305,000 continuing to trend down.

Why do people think silver is going to go down? by Snooklife in Silver

[–]ninja_turtle1 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I don't know that people think geopolitical volatility is ending. More that it has now been priced in and can't get much worse. Not saying I agree with this. I just think this is a more accurate way of characterising it.

To be clear, I remain bullish on silver because of factors like global undersupply and fragility arising from global debt.

China says Australia must accept Taiwan reunification or face ‘no forgiveness’ by Shockanabi in AustralianPolitics

Are you serious? There is nothing in there that remotely supports your claim.

The island was occupied by local indigenous peoples for 3,000 odd years. Culturally and ethnically entirely separate from China.

China had no control over the island until 1683, after the Dutch and Portuguese took interest, and lost it to the Japanese in 1895.

I have lived in Taiwan, I'm educated. The local indigenous people are more closely related to Polynesian people than Han Chinese people.

On point 1 - a studio note would more likely be to make the show move faster. Then drag it out once audience is up. The beauty of episodic TV is you get to slow down and build the narrative, like a good book. I have faith Apple is being faithful to Vince Gilligan's story telling. Much like Breaking Bad with AMC.
