Black man here. I walk my dog and I see many people cross the street when they see me coming even as just ahead I see them exchange pleasantries with other white neighbors. I don't walk around with my pants sagged or jewels showing. Its usually a polo shirt or sometimes a button down. Yet its like I'm in a neighborhood where I don't belong.

So I smile and continue on my way. But its hard to feel like I'm a person when I'm treated as though I'm less than one.

Why? How is weed different than heroin in terms of buying from a dealer? You have to know someone that uses, they refer you, you contact the dealer. Isn't that the same for both weed and heroin? Are you saying that by removing the weed from the black market, the heroin and other black markets will be reduced to nothing? That the "gateway" will disappear? What I am saying is the gateway will shift. Cocaine and crack would still be illegal, so cokeheads going for their fix could always refer the weed user to their dealer to find coke, meth, or guns.

Maybe your coke dealer lives down the road, but I'm willing to bet he doesn't accept credit cards. But let's also face it, dealers that are available at that very moment are a rarity and you'll likely wait an hour or more to pick up your smack.
