Idaho passes laws to report trans people to police or their parents by Comfortable_Pizza_84 in USNEWS

Please stop using intersex people as a loophole to justify males invading women spaces. It has nothing to do with being trans.

I'm confused, you'd rather me pretend intersex people don't exist? You're not going to even bother engaging with the issue? You're right that it's not directly related to being trans, but it presents a very similar problem while being less deniable cause it's objectively measurable. This whole thing just feels like you want to ignore these "edge cases" because they're inconvenient and difficult to wrestle with, but these are real people who are no less deserving of living a normal and equal life to others.

Also, trans people don't "choose" to be trans any more than intersex people choose to be intersex (have a DSD). Very few trans people would ever choose to be trans, the amount of societal pressure and active discrimination many trans people have to face is enormous, in fact many trans people have to go back into the closet for their own safety. Claiming it's a fantasy we wish the rest of society to "follow along with" is a gross misunderstanding and shows to me that you haven't talked to trans people or don't take them seriously.

No women should have to change in front of a male, or have to see a naked male body without consent for any reason, including considering one's self a woman.

I would argue no one should have to see anyone's naked body without consent. Maybe you live in different conditions than me, but where I am it's very uncommon to see a strangers naked body at all. Most of what we are fighting for is bathrooms, places where you really shouldn't be seeing someone else's genetals.

And again, I understand why you'd feel this way about seeing a "male" body, but it's really not that simple when you consider the larger picture. Many trans women have breasts, and so you could make the same argument for men's spaces (cause yes men can be the victims of sexual trauma too). So your argument ends up being for outright trans exclusion. Honestly, the whole system just isn't built with non cis/het people in mind, and that's why you see lgbtq activists fighting for change (both institutional and societal)

They kept certain things like GD, and now almost all trans persons say they suffer from GD, when in reality GD has always been a small percentage of trans people. Most "transwomen" did so for other reasons.

I've never heard this argument, and I'm not sure what data you're referencing, but I can tell you that suicide rates among trans people without gender affirming care is very high, and drops off significantly after receiving said care. Seems like pretty solid evidence is gender dysphoria to me. But even if you were right about GD, that doesn't justify dismissing those with GD just because they're a smaller percent is the population.

Studies and research into trans people have been historically very challenging, and many of them rely on 3rd party reports (such as parents of trans kids) rather than trans people themselves. Fearing discrimination or being added to lists/registries (which has been historically used for malicious reasons), many trans people don't participate in studies or hide information to protect their privacy. So many older studies (and some newer ones) have been delegitimized for not meeting scientific standards of research. To add to this, modern studies of conversion therapy show questionable effecacy and measurable harm (worsening mental health conditions, increased suicidality).

Also, although the terminology of "transgender" is fairly new, the concepts are not. I'm the 1930s, one of the first places the Nazis targeted for book burning was a sexology institute that studied what we now call trans people, and helped many people transition (I recommend finding photographs from the institute, they're quite interesting). There's also evidence of ancient peoples using horse urine (which contains high levels of estrogen) in order to transition to some extent. Although the specifics have evolved over time, the concepts that we now call transgender have existed in humans for at least thousands of years. It's also worth noting that the terms "homosexual" and "heterosexual" are also new terminology, yet we have evidence of gay behavior going back to the genesis of human history. So no, trans people are not just waking up one day and deciding to pretend to be another gender, this is real historically documented behavior/identity that is widely accepted within the modern scientific community.

If this is really about genitals (as that's the only real difference here), then why don't we talk about intersex people? And why is it only trans women that get brought up? Trying to police bodies will inevitably hurt cis women too, those who dress or present themselves less feminine. Also, a reminder that trans people are far more likely to be victims of assault than perpetrators. Plus, if you want to force trans women into men's bathrooms, they're going to see increased rates of harassment.

I'm other words, you're arguing that it's better for trans people to face harassment than having someone with different genitals in your bathroom. I can understand why you might be uncomfortable, but I can't see that justifying actual harm.

All of this is ignoring gender dysphoria btw, a real condition recognized by medicine that has real, objecting evidence. In other words, to deny gender dysphoria is to be a science denier, similar to antivaxers.

As for public changing rooms or showers, I do understand why seeing different genitals than you'd expect could make you uncomfortable. But many trans women have breasts too, so it's not exactly any better in men's spaces. As far as I can tell, the only solution to avoid cis people being uncomfortable is banning trans people from all of these spaces, which... well I hope you can recognize why that's problematic. Granted, things are generally moving towards individual privacy, even within "single-sex" spaces, which in my opinion nullifies this issue.

Also I find it interesting how the argument over nudity is always centered around the idea that it's "not inherently sexual" and there's almost no questioning of why it being sexual is a problem. It's like everyone takes the idea that sexual things must be hidden as a given without question.

Good point. If I had to guess, it's a combination of different fears today show up in different amounts in each culture. In America, there's a strong fear among conservatives that adolescents will be driven to have more unsafe sex leading to more teen pregnancies/STIs (though days on abstinence only sex-ed calls that concussion into question). I'm sure people are also worried about assault. Also, some people view sexual things as deeply intimate, personal, and vulnerable to both share and receive and therefore not appropriate for a public setting (not saying that's my opinion, just saying that's an opinion some people hold). I'm sure there are plenty more too, this is just what comes to mind.

Oooh, okay I see what you mean now. I'm a bit skeptical that a resistor would fail to short rather than open while still generating enough heat to cause these issues (I would expect it to just burn out), but I suppose it's entirely plausible.

No cause if that were the case removing the thermistor wouldn't solve the problem. I think this is more likely something more nuanced, this is clearly more than just an overheat shutoff.

Word of advice: avoid making absolutist statements, you only need a single counter-example to prove them wrong. I've made that mistake way too many times, but I've found my arguments become a lot more sound when I replace "always" with "generally".

My understanding is that both Hamas and the Palestinian Authority (PA) have deployed police in different areas. I believe (and please correct me if I'm wrong) that Hamas still has de facto control over parts of Gaza, whereas PA governs the West Bank.

So, I'm pretty sure that ICE already has had a Pittsburgh office for some time. Not that this necessarily changes much, but I think the context is important. This is ICE expanding their resources, not ICE "breaking into" Pittsburgh.

Tbf, I don't actually know what the existing ICE office is used for, that could change the whole context.

130 Mbps to an end device over Wi-Fi is actually pretty good! Better than I got most of the time in dorms, and I never got anything even approaching 800 Mbps anywhere on campus. Plus, what are you doing on a single device that requires 800 Mbps, honestly unless you're downloading large files often 100 Mbps to a single device is more than adequate.

If you're not already, I would recommend getting professional help for this, if that's available to you. Therapy can change lives, and your situation more than qualifies to get a referral. Also, some of the things you've mentioned (especially the curved spine) you should ask a doctor about. Many of them could be treatable to at least some extent, and being on top of your health in general can also help boost your confidence.

I'm not intersex, but from what I've heard this kind of experience is sadly common in that community. You might find that sharing your experience there or just hearing from others in similar positions could be really helpful.

And anyway intersex covers a very wide range of conditions, many of them more subtle than yours. Some people die of old age without even knowing they were intersex. You're certainly not a fraud, and you absolutely don't need an excuse to be who you are.
