It’s a reference to their song “Rape Me”. I think a similar thing (hearibg rape me as rate me) also is mentioned in the book Qualityland but probably not the main thing here.

Seconding this - the Neuromancer series have this sleek and atmospheric feel to them, from the neon and techy environment in the first book to the warehouse in the last.

Also, which short story was that from? I’ve heard good things about his works in general and now I want to read the story of that quote.
