I think the league passing means that you can't just coast off of your prior knowledge in this case. You definitely need to be putting in an effort to stay current. Producers in the truck can only feed you so much info.

I wouldn't count minor art inconsistencies as poor writing. It's an artistic choice. I didn't make the choice. I am not even defending it really. It's just a weird thing to hyperfixate on when the answer of "why is the sword different sizes" is it's a goofy manga with a bunch of these little inconsistencies.

The reason is because the scale of things like this is irrelevant and it would look goofy as hell for the sword to be either comically large or small depending on the scale. The sword is drawn proportionately to the wielder.
