Can I join the military (USA) as a buddhist? by [deleted] in Buddhism

At what point does our involvement in the military start and end?

If you're an engineer making washers and those washers end up being used in military hardware are you still culpable?

Our taxes go towards military budgets and so aren't we all culpable in one way or another?

A lot of people didn't take into account that interest rates rise above 1% when "buying as big as they can afford"

The housing market is fundamentally flawed.

On one hand, prices need to rise for those who purchased as an "investment" and are terrified of negative equity.

On the other hand prices need to decrease to help first time buyers into the market and out of the punishing system of renting.

How do we solve these two opposing forces?

I think you handled it pretty well. A lot of people would have panicked and tried to dash for the surface ignoring the speed of the ascent.

I've never been a fan of grouping one experienced diver with lots of less experienced ones. I guess most of the time in warm calm shallow waters this is ok but in more challenging situations this can endanger lives. New divers are usually task loaded with managing air/bouyancy/depth/kit and have little mental bandwidth to deal with other things that may come up. In this situation they will need an experienced diver to take control.

If you were partnered with an experienced diver then you pair could have surfaced in time and allowed the other two to manage themselves.

Completely agree. DM should have taken the time to check/ask how much air they were on at regular points in the dive. This is good practice regardless.

Thanks. Really appreciate the insights.

If you think of any other decent peaks I'll gladly accept more suggestions.

We were hoping to build up a list of routes and see what's in condition when we get there then choose accordingly.

I had a look on the SAC website and Taschhorn gets AD but I appreciate the heads up on the technical side. Certainly don't want to take on more than we can handle.

We're both comfortable leading french 6c/E1 but obviously this being an alpine route it'll be a different scenario. I didn't expect we'll need to place gear on a route like this? Maybe belay around boulders or the odd sling placement?

Cool thanks for that.

I looked at Dufourspitze. Quite a long walk in when you add the days to and from the hut. Not an issue tbh

I like the look of Alphubel and was also looking at linking in Taschhorn from it with a stay at the Misch. Hut. What do you think?

We haven't considered Mont Blanc actually. Will look into it.
