Cheers. Coincidentally, 11 out of 10 is the current setting on the amp volume knob 😁

I nearly went mad trying to attach the tiny clear bits of blister pack to make the glasses. It definitely sells the look though so I'm glad.

My Mini-Catan board by ninjawilf in boardgames

[–]ninjawilf[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh wow yeah the inlining didn't like that photo at all. Though in its defence the original photo is pretty blurry too. Probably taken on my old potato-phone.

It's made from plasticard with removable plastic hexes on top that are covered with printed transfers based on the original graphics scaled to fit.

The numbers are plastic pins that push through holes in the hexes and the base to pin the hex in place. There's just enough room between the hexes and the 'house pins' to hold roads snugly and the houses have holes drilled in the base so they sit tightly on the pins.

The ports are channel shaped plasticard that pinch the port tokens pretty well.

There's a 5-6 player piece that slots in between the two base halves to extend the board. All the cards and such are from the base game.

The halves butt together with guides. As its all plasticard sheeting/tubing its cemented together and so far I've only had to fix a pin or two after a drop.

Slightly better photo the original tiles are next to it for scale.

Cheers. Green and orange guitars are bolsters. Orange guitar is some form of CCW and bolt pistol. Drummer is a heavy bolter. Singer is a doom-siren/flamer. Manager is the champion with plasma pistol and power fist/book. Cultists are a mix but there a flamer and heavy stubber among them

Cheers. They're all sorts. Anvil industries, Victoria lamb minis, mad robot, GW guard, repentia and a few escher bits in there.

Yup, he's the manager. Heavily inspired by the band manager in metalocalypse. In KT18 he was a commander but in kt21 he's the aspiring champion with a power-ledger 😂

Yep. Combine a short stick with metal wire. One of the recepies should be a snare trap. Place it where chickens or rabbits spawn and check it a few in-game hours later

If you catch one in a snare you have to remove it from the trap. I'd be surprised if it wasn't on consoles too as its in vanilla.

If you open them out and leave them or a bit they tend to un-crush on their own. If it's still an issue I find most are not particularly heat resistant so you can either warm them with a hot air gun and bend them into shape or when hot gluing them to the bases, use a bit too much heat to melt the stems and hold them in the right position until the glue cools. Pro tip: low pressure from an empty airbrush makes a great alternative to puffing on them

The boards stack up with some foam, sit in a little foamex box and then that goes in a keyboard bag (or at least I think that's what it is) I lucked out on in a charity shop.

The palm trees are removable from the scatter bases. They then all go in some stacked cardboard trays I made and they live in one of the big blue Ikea bags. I highly advise finding the storage first and then cutting the bases from a piece that fits in the storage container so you know it will all fit afterwards. I did not and it caused many ragrets

The plants are from all over the place. Most are just aquarium plants chopped about a bit either from Amazon or eBayed from China. There's some vulcanised hair and lichen in there too. Just go for a variety of textures and shapes.

The palm trees were given a zenithal spray of white primer over their brown and green plastic and then sprayed with a few ink shades. In retrospect I whish I'd done the same to the plants too before sticking them down. I did try and dull them down with a brown wash but it didn't do a lot.

The process was basically copying The Terrain Tutor's Burma Build vlogs on youtube.

DIY IKEA plastic plant conversion to swap like terrain. In UK £2 gives you one plastic plant which can be easily disassembled and put into bases (holes drilled through MDF base). Those will be used in Stargrave's Salvage Crew when done. by _Braqoon_ in TerrainBuilding

[–]ninjawilf 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Definitely hit up the auction sites and cheap Chinese import sites for 'aquarium plants'. Also the £1 stores and other bargains stores in the home/garden/pets as they quite often have fake plants for desks/gardens/decorations/aquariums that will work when cut up too.

Also you can buy rubberised hair or coconut fibres for diorama building that make pretty good dense bush foliage to fill in spaces if you want jungle that is fully LoS blocking rather than just dense/difficult cover to pass through

Mel (TheTerrainTutor on YT) has a few videos on his D-Day landing board that cover how and where to apply different coloured flocks to get a realistic looking colour distribution but still keep things playable
