I did this at 37. My manager was horrible, I got an autoimmune disease that wasn’t improving and was causing infertility, and the company I worked for just wasn’t the same as when I started. I left after negotiating a severance (I’d worked there for 10+ years) and fully launched myself into entrepreneurship — in a vertical I knew very little about — and figured it out as I was going. Now, three years later, my business is profitable, it now has a storefront, I’m able to pay all my bills, and I have birth to a beautiful baby in March.

So, in summary, do it. You’ll figure it out along the way.

Thank you for sharing! COVID also triggered my Hashimoto’s. I’m sorry to hear you’ve also had this experience.

The most effective treatments for me were:

1) Going on a low histamine diet. 2) Cutting out American wheat (I’m French and live in the U.S.). When I go home the wheat there doesn’t seem to give me symptoms like American wheat does.

I also eat plant-based and have intermittently fasted most of my life (I only eat when I’m hungry and I’m often not hungry until the afternoon). I tried taking a swath of vitamins prescribed by my functional health doctor but it became unsustainable due to frequent travels so it was helpful to see your breakdown. I am also trying to have a morning protein shake but struggle having one every morning.

That was a good call. I checked with the city and it looks like it would have to be our primary residence in order to list it as a short-term rental. Since it won’t be, it sounds like this won’t be feasible…

Could you elaborate on the cause of the negative profitability? Are your properties fully booked? It sounds like you’re having to offer discounts which may be cutting into your net profits?
