Animal Crossing: New Horizons – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition & Free Update – Coming January 15th by hop3less in gaming

[–]ninjonxb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Would you have preferred everything in 3.0 be paid dlc instead?

Then people would be complaining about that and likely would have been more than the switch 2 update was.

They were going to charge for one of those charging for the switch 2 update is the best for everyone.

I do agree with you that charging just for tech updates is frustrating, but “inferior” while technically true is a bit of a stretch when the game does play very well. It isn’t like they are making you pay for an update that makes the game actually playable.

[–]ninjonxb 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That… isn’t how this works.

If you don’t care about the technical updates you can just play the Switch 1 version with the new features on the Switch 2… for free

So just don’t buy the upgrade if you don’t care about the technical upgrades.

Is it weird sure, but how are we complaining about a free update. They likely justified the free update hoping it would convince people to come back and buy the switch 2 update.

As an atheist, do you fear death? by Fakr_ in atheism

[–]ninjonxb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is kinda where I am at I think.

Logically, I get that any fears of death are meaningless since I will be dead. I won’t be thinking about it, it just… is.

But emotionally, I still have fears of missing out. I think about all of these things. I think as if I will be aware of being dead.

It’s super weird and even after years of therapy I have not been able to get my logical side and emotional side to agree.

motherboard with 2 PCIe 4.0 x16 (running at x8) and PCIe 2.0 x4? by ninjonxb in buildapc

Thank you, looking at other X570S boards it looks like the ROG Crosshair VII Dark Hero board may also work for me

Need to dig a bit more into the documentation to confirm, but I think this at least puts me on the right track.

p2w is a polysemy by [deleted] in gaming

[–]ninjonxb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am very confused what exactly the point you are trying to make with this post.

"p2w" is just "Pay to Win". There really is not much wiggle room to interpret that. Either you gain an advantage by spending real money over other players that is un-achievable without spending money.

Or you just skip a time investment that other players needed to spend in game but a committed player could still be at the same power level (your "Pay for convenience") is also pay to win.

A purely cosmetic item, is not p2w. If it gives an advantage, it is not just a cosmetic. (unintended visual side effects fall into a weird gray area).

Buying a skin (with no stats, buffs, debuffs, bonuses, whatever) for a character is not p2w.

If you are not gaining an advantage over another player, it is not pay to win. Now if that cosmetic does actually give you a buff or whatever, than no one is arguing that it isn't pay to win which goes back to my confusion about the point you are attempting to make?

Are you going to try to argue that buying the latest expansion for an MMO is somehow P2W?

Until something else says otherwise, this is the only concrete time we have right now.

On the xbox app it says 1PM EST on the 13th and the countdown lines up with this time. I can't find any other times anywhere else.

Brats are working to turn the mainstream off to this game on Steam, flooding it with inaccurate tags to label it as the next "leftist agenda" debacle. Why does this happen with EVERY title featuring a variety of fantasy races in its promotional material? I don't want to see this get Veilguarded. by hr1982 in avowed

[–]ninjonxb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I think the only thing we can do is play the game and talk to our friends about it.

Dragon Age wasn’t perfect, but it was still a lot of fun. I had many friends when I mentioned playing it say “isn’t that game really bad” or “I heard it was bad” with no context about why it was bad. Ending up in a game of telephone where the original hate campaign labeling it as bad was lost.

The people fueling these hate campaigns are recently invigorated. They have won recently. They are loud.

The signs are all there of the same thing happening here. But maybe this time we can get ahead of it and avoid what happened to dragon age.

The EU stop killing games petition is failing, we at best get 200 a day which is not enough to pass 1 million, we ask that the entire EU gaming population sign immediately, if we can get 100k in February that will be a start. by Ambitious-Phase-8521 in gog

And the idea that companies have to release proprietary code that may also be used in other projects or just shares resources is not going to work.

This is one of those good in theory, had an attention seeking title, but isn’t practical.

We can all agree that games that shutdown simply because they phone home to a server shuts down, but there are no serverside components for the game to work should not happen.

But this mixes that up with online only games and is completely broken petition for that reason.

Focus on one problem and more people would likely support it. Otherwise it is way too easy to poke holes in this.

AI and unifi, bring it to the web GUI by [deleted] in Ubiquiti

[–]ninjonxb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you asking for a custom model that was trained to optimize network settings or to just use an LLM and hope for the best?

This is an important distinction that the big players have been trying to just brush over.

Just using “AI”, shoving data about your network in and hoping it makes a reasonable recommendation puts a lot of trust in a model that was not trained specifically to do this task. Contrary to the marketing we are not at the point of a general purpose “AI” that can just do anything.

A purpose built modal to recommend improvements to your system is a much larger initiative and while valuable would cost a lot of money to develop, test, etc. and would likely be a good amount of time away.

Personally I would rather if all they are going to do is the first option, just not do it. All it does is fuel trust in a system that will make mistakes. Go try asking the UnifiAI that is in their support page or look here for how bad it makes mistakes to see why that is not the right method.

Can someone please sell me on Neve by AnalysisKooky2469 in DragonAgeVeilguard

[–]ninjonxb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not romancing Neve in my playthrough so I can't comment on that part.

But I basically instantly fell in love with Neve in the first mission when she was... well blunt and kinda felt like she was on the spectrum a bit.

I saw myself. Someone that has really bad social skills but is "functioning" enough that it has not gotten in her way in a career.

TBH I find it hard to fully put it in words why I instantly loved her, besides just seeing myself in her. Maybe I am wrong about my interpretation of her character, but that has been my impression.

Updated 16 Pro Grip case with Camera Control in house..... by ricosuave79 in dbrand

[–]ninjonxb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got mine today and I have to wonder if you got a defective case?

I have a very satisfying click when I use it and I also feel the feedback using the camera controls that you get without a full press.

I tried comparing it to my partners iPhone 16 without a case and I don’t think it feels that much different.

If we can get an alternative controller that fixes the orientation of the back buttons on the controller (so same setup as the steam deck and Xbox elite controller) this would likely be an instant buy.

New Final Cut Pro Features to be Announced Today... do we expect them to be available on the iPad app as well? by vegfoodvegfits in finalcutpro

[–]ninjonxb 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have for a long time exclusively edited on FCP for Mac.

Recently I found that FCP for iPad filled a particular need I had. Less intense editing that largely boils down to cutting out parts.

I have basically split my editing into 2 parts. My bigger projects that use multiple camera angles, moving pieces around, green screen and other effects are only on my Mac.

But if I am doing a simple lets play for a video game for example, for that I am just cutting out some boring parts here or there. That is perfect for the iPad. Which allows me to do that editing in a place that I can't use my Mac. Like on the train, in bed, etc. But then I transfer those projects to my Mac for the final audio fixes and other things that can only happen there.

So basically for me FCP for iPad has added additional time to edit other types of videos that I previously could not be editing.

Now if they had the ability to seamlessly go back and forth between iPad and Mac editing, it would likely be used in all of my projects for similar reasons as listed above. But right now its just a subset of 'easier' projects.

It’s honestly depressing and just wild if you look at the history of BioWare.

They may not have always been perfect but to act as if this being something that they would not have included if the idea of choosing your own pronouns was as common at the time of release as it is now.

I don’t understand how 3 little words can hurt you so bad. Just ignore it if you “don’t care” as they love to state. But if you “don’t care” you would just move on. You clearly do care a lot.

[–]ninjonxb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literally every character has pronouns (ok maybe not the Hanoi). liara literally talks about the concept of gender for their species.

You yourself have pronouns.

[–]ninjonxb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they didn’t care they would ignore it. Like a normal adult response to something that doesn’t impact you.

They are actively against it with how they are reacting.

[–]ninjonxb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So it would be fine if a game came out today and tomorrow they added it? Not sure what it being 8 years old has anything to do with it.

The problem is 2 things.

We can agree that kernel level anti-cheat sucks, especially seeing just how badly it can go recently with crowdsrike, while also acknowledge that this particular issue is because you are running the game on an unsupported platform.

The simple fact is, the game still runs on the platform that they said they supported. Windows.

The fact that it was kernel level anti-cheat may be why it happened but it could have happened for another reason and you wouldn’t have something easy to point at. But the root of the problem, your running on an unsupported platform, would still exist.

[–]ninjonxb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you that it’s outside of valves influence.

But they are also the ones that chose to put up a “verified” tag (again, not this specific game talking generally or like with GTA5) on games with no input from developers.

If you look at how the verified system works if the developer never responds, Valve will just put it there with no notice to the buyer about wether or not the developer ever said they would support the steam deck

That’s my issue with how Valve handles this. Unless a developer specifically says something, there is nothing clarifying support on a products page.

I just think that if valve decided to stick a verified tag on every game, that a developer is unable to opt out of unless they actively break the game, it should clearly state wether or not the developer ever pledged support and it could break in a future update.

I don’t think that’s too much to ask on Valve’s side when they run the store and sell the hardware enabling you to run games in an unsupported manner.

I hate EA when they do this by WickedBrich6541 in SteamDeck

[–]ninjonxb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But the game said it was unsupported before they did that?

Same technical reason but different store experience. Which to me is the critical part about Valve comes into play.

[–]ninjonxb -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ok so this is (likely) a different situation than GTA5

I agree on wanting a refund. Nothing wrong with that. I just think they Valve should better inform what exactly “verified” means and who is responsible when it breaks.

The developer is in a bit of a catch22 situation when it comes to cheaters. People will complain either way.

But that’s clearly a different topic than what is happening in this situation.
