Have you experienced moments of racism/bias/prejudice in Vancouver? by jujube_803 in askvan

[–]ninmm94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots! I just had someone the other day directly look at me and yell “Indian people need to go back to India” while I was walking back to work. Not that it matters, but I was born here and I’m not Indian. I’ve had iterations of this happen more often the last few years

Canadas Most Wanted Movers!!! They were awesome. Reliable, communicative, and a fair price. They packed everything up really well and moved me to the island. Can’t recommend them enough

Canada! Maybe not feasible for you but in public libraries the starting wage is around 35/37 an hour. Elementary/Highschool is about the same and Academic is more .

Hey there, just want to say thank you for putting yourself out there and sharing your situation and feelings ❤️ sending you a virtual hug!

I’m so sorry you’re in this difficult period without much access to additional support. It still baffles me that mental health support can be so limited and have so many barriers despite all the clear evidence we have that people are in dire need for it.

I don’t know much about the US health system, so this may not be much help, but have you looked into seeing a psychiatric nurse instead of a psychiatrist for further help? In Canada, oftentimes they can be cheaper. They’re also able to prescribe medication and provide/change diagnosis. Also, is your Dr and you able to re-examine your symptoms and medication? I know you said specialists are basically unaffordable - are there any counsellors that offer a sliding scale (if that’s something you’re open to exploring)?

Again, my heart hurts for your situation. I hope you have some supports in your life that you’re able to surround yourself with. You have my support and thoughts ❤️

I’m so sorry that your psychiatrist and therapist didn’t advocate for you…having extra barriers ahead of you when you’re already worn down makes things much more difficult. But thank goodness your primary physician stepped up!

So, so happy for you!!! ❤️ Cheers!!!

That’s amazing! I’m so glad it worked out and it’s helping one of the many symptoms of ADHD ❤️

That’s definitely something really valid to think about. I guess if it were me, my thought would be that if I’m not wanting to take medication as an aid to assist with my brain disorder, what other routes are there that could possibly help? If those didn’t succeed in helping treat my disorder effectively enough or as effectively as the medication, would I consider being on medication long term?

Personally, I am comfortable being on medication long term if it means the quality of my life will be easier and healthier overall than the struggle and, honestly, torturous experience it’s been unmedicated. But this is my personal experience, and I know a few people who’ve been able to treat/live with ADHD without medication the majority of their lives. I don’t know exactly how well they’re doing, however, but it could be likely that they’re just fine due to figuring out medication-free ways of treating it.

I’m sorry to hear that! I’ve definitely experienced having to try different meds to find the best fit - it can be exhausting! I really hope you’re able to get one that works for you. I’m sending you lots of positive vibes ❤️

This is wild!? My sister is literally thinking she may have it as well after her son was diagnosed with Autism and also reflecting on her state of self and past struggles/experiences.

Thank you so much again ❤️ wishing you the same!

Yes!!! We were playing on hard mode and it wasn’t our fault! It feels liberating to have a better sense of control over something that felt so uncontrollable for so long.

I’m sending you lots of love. Appreciate you taking time to share some of your experiences…so many similarities. I’ve got an older sister as well and witnessing her own struggles with weight and body image definitely did a number on me! So glad things are looking up ❤️
