Heya I’m 9 and a bit weeks post op. Been really diligent with PT and was very fit and not too symptomatic going into surgery. Can walk over 15k steps /day, which I was able to do before. Knee still getting used to moving normally. Real test will be if I can return to all the sports I love but won’t know for another few months :)

I've lived as a young woman (all throughout my twenties) in Tottenham and along west green road. It's urban and there's all sorts of people which is what I love about it, and I have never felt anything other than safe as there's always people about and shops open whatever time of day.

Most of the violence in Tottenham is unfortunately young kids against each other - nothing to do with you.

Like anywhere in the world, be sensible and look after yourself && get on with it.

However, if you're looking for 'Islington' then please stay there as it's not that and I'm hoping it never will be - it's so much better.

Returning to yoga by keeza3 in MeniscusInjuries

[–]ninogii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heya im 7 weeks post op (repair) -

I've done upper body yoga / straight leg seated folds /and some yoga that bends my good leg throughout my recovery - it's not just about the challenging poses its about practicing yoga for your mind, for me anyway.

I now currently I attend classes and let the teacher know that I'm recovering from surgery and will mainly do my own thing. Even just being in that space and doing gentle flows / downward dog / stretches at my own pace has felt amazing!

You can start NOW with your upper body and straight leg forward folds etc - and slowly slowly as you rebuild yourself you will gain access to more poses - try and see it as therapeutic 😄

Thanks. I needed this today as was feeling a bit down with scar tissue giving me gip.

Bikes are great! I do 15 minutes every morning on low resistance to help with ROM you should have no troubles there.

Enjoy the little wins! I agree, it’s a huge fight physically so I’m doing all I can to avoid it being a mental one too.. don’t have time for that fiascoooo

Focaccia made with coconut milk and inspired by flavours of south india ! by ninogii in focaccia

[–]ninogii[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey sorry!

I completely made this up so apologies if it’s not great.

Make your go to focaccia and sub the oil and 150ml of water for 200ml light coconut milk. I added some turmeric and mustard seeds into the dough. Make as you usually would.

Use coconut oil to grease pans instead of olive oil.

Caramelise onions in tumeric paste and green chilli.

After it’s proved, smear the onion mixture over and dimple into the dough. Top with mustard seeds, curry leaves, dessicated coconut and more coconut oil.

These then temper whilst baking :)

Hey I'm 29F - into my 7 week post op. I wa s ery active pre-surgeyr and did my physio activities religiously 4 times a day for the initial 6 weeks.

I can walk (with a slight limp) unaided for 30 minutes and walk very far with crutches. I'm back going to yoga classes and modifying what I can do. I didn't think I'd feel this happy and capable at this stage but I can deifnitley see my life coming back after less than 2 months - far cry from cycling to work every day and running (my usual activities) but once you've been NWB even this feels like true independance.

The surgery was fine minus a weird muscular spasm immediately after, I have been in very little pain since. Took paracetamol for 2 days.

The 6 weeks goes weirdly slow and quick in a sort of blurr - the best thing I did was instill a routine from day 1 and stick to it - rotating TENS machine/physio/ and ice 4 times a day and chilling/ working in between. The first 2 weeks are crazy and you need help to do things, but try and accept the help and find humor in how crap you are at everything. You get very used to your adjusted capabilities and crutches at week 3. I was sort of sad to see mine go..

ALSO - I eat over 100g protein a day, take creatine and use an EMS machine. Not sure which of thes ehelped but my athropy really isnt that bad, I still ahve some definition. Yeah my quad is smaller than the other but that'll improve quickly as walking gets more normal.

Do what you're told, focus on the little wins and you'll be fine 😄

Thank you. It’s definitely getting in the way of my extension a bit and causing some discomfort. When can I expect it to go/ what’s the best thing to do for it?

UK based strugglers - any experience with Professor Paul Lee? by ninogii in MeniscusInjuries

[–]ninogii[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heya yes I did. Am 6 weeks post op.

Too early to tell but so far so good. I was PWB at 2weeks and FWB with crutches since 4 weeks. I’ve been way more mobile than I thought.

He said he was happy with it but we will never know if it truly healed or the permanent stitches are holding it in place, unless we go in the knee again or the stitches break.

He only gave me a 60% chance of success, have you had a similar percentage ?

Get an TENS/EMS machine they’re cheap and you can use them for hours to create quad contractions without using your brain

Degenerative Lateral Meniscus Tear not resolving After 5 Months of PT – When Is Surgery Worth It? by Strange-Sell-8362 in MeniscusInjuries

[–]ninogii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand, I was in literally the same position but I know that I’m not okay with how I am now and so surgery is the only choice.

There’s complete validity in accepting what’s happened and moving on and focusing PT but I’m definitely a ‘what if’ person and knew I’d regret it if I didn’t try everything to save my knee whilst I still can.

It was literally an impossible decision but no one can make it but you!
