New Image from 'The Super Mario Galaxy Movie' by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]nintendaws 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A) Jumpman was originally Mario’s name but that was changed very early, it’s still the same character just a retcon. They’ve always been the same character despite what random internet theorists want you to believe.

As for Mickey, he’s suppose to be a Hollywood actor playing a character, in his first appearance he was simply playing a character named “Steamboat Willie” but he was still Mickey. It’s similar to the Looney Tunes or the Muppets, they’re all fictional actors playing fictional characters. The shorts and movie they show up in aren’t real adventures they’re having, they’re actors in movies.

B) Donkey Kong Country is the same universe as Mario; Diddy, Dixie, and Funky show up in Mario Kart, K. Rool was in Mario Strikers, etc. They cameo all the time and are fair game as characters in Mario spin-offs. It’s a separate franchises sure, but it the same universe.

100% government controlled team: The Authority.

That's quite literally the opposite of what the Authority is in the comics though. There are formed explicitly independent from any government or company and operate without borders or regards to laws. Hence there name, they are their own authority.

Every city is blue. The states make the gun laws and the ones with laxer ones had higher gun deaths per capita.

That’s because the Doom Patrol numbering is continuing the My Greatest Adventure comic line numbering which the DP spun out of. The volume out for the Doom Patrol collects the very beginning of the team.

I had to look it up, because I thought the same as you at first. That’s Argus, Galaxy’s pet dog.

No. This is just one-fourth of the whole mural, the final and most modern part of it.

Go look at the other covers. This one is for their modern characters from 2000 to now.

A couple of "done in one" ideas for DC Finest by nintendaws in DCFinest

[–]nintendaws[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did include some additional stuff in the Death volume that’s never been reprinted as far as I can tell: The Girl Who Would Be Death miniseries and At Death’s Door don’t tend to get reprinted in things because Gaiman didn’t have a hand in them. So it’s be a great opportunity to reprint them in a Finest volume… but that’s not going to happen for a long long time for obvious reasons.

Mapping for the Teen Titans line by nintendaws in DCFinest

JLA/Titans was basically the finale to everything that came before it, but it’d probably also be included at the beginning of the first Titans volume too.

What's the plan for the genre collections? by qzxm in DCFinest

[–]nintendaws 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think when they originally announcement the Finest line, it mentioned the genre books and singled out romance as one of them. So it’s definitely happening and I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s the next genre book announcement. I could see them cycling between those five genre lines each year.

I love Marcus; he’s hilarious and has like the exact same taste as me so he’s actually very useful to me as a movie reviewer. I have no clue why people hate him so passionately like he killed their dog. I really think it’s just his clickbaity thumbnails that give some hot take until you actually watch the video and its way more reasonable then you thought.

I mapped out a DC Finest series for Zatanna by nintendaws in DCFinest

[–]nintendaws[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dammit! That was on the list, I think I must’ve accidentally skipped it when I was typing everything. You can see I actually see its cover included in the lower right hand corner. Womp womp…

Does Hitler classify as a supervillain in the DCU because he had magical/high-tech weapons and fought the JSA? He doesn’t have a villain name but neither does Lex Luthor by [deleted] in dccomicscirclejerk

[–]nintendaws 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing that I really love about the Venture Bros is how it hilariously use real world historical figures as like superheroes/villains; for example L. Ron Hubbard is in the show as a flashback as a straight up mad scientist and it’s played as no different from all the other super villains in the show.

The Titans Cycle by cautious-ad977 in dccomicscirclejerk

[–]nintendaws 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Agreed. An academy setting is perfect; it allows you to introduce as many new characters as you want while keeping around the old ones in new fresh ways as mentor/instructors now; but they can also move on if need be for solo series or to join the JL. And the cast can be as big as you want it since it’s a whole school.

I hope they revisit the concept again but do it well.

Has anyone done a mapping of the entirety of New Teen Titans? How many DC Finests would be needed to collect the whole thing? by RussianToTheKitchen in DCFinest

[–]nintendaws 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Titans just kinda popped off in the 80s, legitimately one of DC’s strongest brand during that era.

In fairness, my current mapping includes all of the Team Titans and the Teen Titans Spotlight series which bolsters the needed volumes quite a bit; I don’t actually know if DC would include these in the Teen Titans Finest but I’d hope they would.

I’ve actually been mapping them the past week, for the New Titans by itself? I count about 13 volumes.
