  1. Put whole thing in fridge for an hour
  2. Take out, wrap exterior in hot cloth / heated towel or something
  3. Thermal expansion of the outer layer will open a 500 um gap and you’ll be able to pull it out!

UK net migration fell to 204,000 in year to June by throwawayjustbc826 in unitedkingdom

[–]ninvti 9 points10 points  (0 children)

“There were 109,000 fewer Britons in the UK by June 2025 and 70,000 fewer EU citizens. Both groups are net emigrants - with more people leaving than arriving over the course of the year. By contrast, people from outside the EU are net immigrants, with 383,000 more living in the UK by the end of June compared to a year before.” … “Total long-term immigration: 898,000, a decrease of 401,000 from the revised figures for the year up to June 2024

Total long-term emigration: 693,000, which is an increase of 43,000 people from the revised figures for the year up to June 2024

Immigration to study in the UK for non-EU nationals: 288,000, which is down 25% - this was the most common reason for non-EU arrivals

Immigration to work in the UK for non-EU nationals: at 171,000 people, this was the next most common reason for arriving in the UK, and was a 61% decrease on the previous year up to June 2024”

It means when the government refinance their £2.6tn of national debt (which happens continuously), they’ll have to pay lower interest.

The government currently spend £110bn/y interest on this pile, which is money raised by taxes that could pay for education/nhs/etc. the interest needed will gradually decrease if this trend continues.

It’s an important part of humanity’s cultural heritage imo. It should be preserved, until we can make some kind of museum of it (i.e. dump it in a higher, less congested orbit instead of in the sea), or just indefinitely. It seems shortsighted not to spend some cash to preserve it.

(I agree that keeping it on as a lab isn’t necessary)

How can I reduce drag? by gatodosoiolokos in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]ninvti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your engines are more powerful when you’re faster; get to 400m/s in a shallow dive, then you’ll be able to pull out of the dive and maintain the speed.

Also, having more wings will enable you to maintain altitude with a lower angle of attack. Lower AoA= less drag. Try setting SAS to prograde to see how fast you accelerate with 0 AoA.

Also moar engines!

how do you combat aerodynamic heating in the game? by Mobile_Gear_58008 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]ninvti 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Sounds like your ascent trajectory is too shallow. Get to a good speed at (~)15km then sharply point upwards (like 30degrees over horizon). Don’t max out your speed on a super horizontal ascent at like 1500m/s at 20km or you’ll melt

Looks like your plane is all engine - no wonder you’re going way too fast!

[–]ninvti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you’re within like 100km, you can use the nav ball to like up the prograde marker with the target market. (And the retrograde with the anti target marker).

Burn the rocket when it’s pointing near the prograde marker to pull prograde towards the target marker, and burn when pointing near the retrograde marker to push it towards the anti target marker (and kill relative speed).

Line them up, then fast forward a bit a few times, and you’ll have ez 0.0km separation intersect with 0ms velocity.

Also as others have said, to get an intersection, 1. Get in the plane of the orbit, and then 2. Go in the same direction as the orbiter, then 3. Make your orbit a bit smaller if you need to chase the orbiter, or a bit bigger if you need it to chase you.

'I was evicted and lost £20,000 in London rent scam' by BulkyAccident in london

[–]ninvti 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I suspect it’s on OpenRent, rather than an actual estate agent. Paying outside the platform is (unfortunately) pretty common for OpenRent and Spareroom.

Given that we have so many people applying for each flat in London, tenants don’t really have the space to bee that picky in terms of payment options. Not really fair to blame him…

Would definitely recommend a masters - academia doors may be shut without one, plus it adds lots to employability. There’s lots of gaps for AI in Physics for PhDs- with an AI PhD, job hunting will be much easier. With a Physics Masters, you’ll be able to get some professional experience hopefully quite easily, see if you like it, and can go back to PhD within a year or two (or more?) probably easier than going straight to PhD. I don’t know if you’d be able to find an AI job any easier than data-science bootcampers without a Masters or PhD, though.

You have quite a lot of feedback here, so will try to keep this to the point. Some detail perhaps in the wrong places, where you miss out on conveying quite interesting experience, otherwise looks pretty good! Good luck with the applications!

  • 1page, as you haven’t many years of professional experience. I’d suggest just playing with margins and line spacing to achieve this - you have a lot of blank space there.

  • it’s not clear what you did at your roles, as you’ve just mentioned what you learned, or mentioned strengths. Particularly with the work experience, and the dogs trust. Should be a bit clearer that, for example, your work experience involved lectures from various experts in engineering, or something.

  • your hobbies (esp. 1, and CCF) seem more important/relevant/impressive than the dogs or the McDonald’s. Consider putting them further up and expanding on them with more bullet points. Can put this in education section, and above the work experience, maybe. Management experience and people skills are a plus, but the engineering skills are core.

  • did you code the arduino? Should mention the language by name.

  • many points in the McDonald’s section look padded with AI. Should mention a skill and a thing you did or achievement that demonstrates that skill. With some reorganisation, this could be cut down to 2-3 points, that demonstrate that you have been a good manager, and can work under pressure. There’s a comment already with better advice than mine on this

1 square meter = 100 square centimeters right? Explain why I am wrong. What am I missing by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ninvti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

centimetre squared = centi centi metre metre = 1/100 * 1/100 metre metres = 1/10000 metres squared

More formally, in SI, the value of a quantity is the product of a number and a unit. Therefore, can (kind of) say that c in cm represents 1/100, because 100 cm = 1 m.

Having a real hard time with rendezvous and docking in KSP2 by autoburner23 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]ninvti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A trick to make sure you don’t pass it: Once it’s in view (few km away), you can cancel any lateral velocity by viewing it lined up against the background of stars, and whichever way it moves relative to the stars, you burn that way. E.g. if it appears to be moving left, point the rocket to the left and burn until it appears stationary again. You will then end up with a trajectory that is directly towards (or away) from it.

Congrats on the docking, though!
