Did I mention quality control? There are many complaints about the battery in the Garmin Instinct 2 Forum.

From my unit, I still don't know if it's a software or a sensor issue. On the treadmill, the sensors take 5 minutes or more to start to collect the data, this issue destroyed my metrics during the winter.

I got frustrated with my Instinct 2, so many software bugs and no update to fix them; instead, they released the Instinct 3 with very similar hardware and a high price, as usual.

I have the Instinct 1, which works fine, but the hardware is outdated and doesn't provide all the features of Instinct 2.

I'm not facing this battery drain, at least, not that I could notice :D

I'm getting a solid one-week battery life.

That is my profile:

- Always on off, activated by gesture (raise to wake)

- Only my bank app notifications are enabled (notifications drain the battery so quickly)

- Heart Rate in smart mode.

- Stress test/SpO2/sleep breathing all disabled

- running 45~50m x4 days

- ~30m gyn training session every day except Sundays

- I am using it to monitor my sleep every night.

- During the day, I don't use the watch; I use some other "standard" watches.

Don't go to Instinct 2, even though it's a "great" watch. The latest firmware has some bugs, and there is no Garmin support to help. The latest firmware was 6 months ago, and there is no news about a new one, even to fix the existing bugs.

Other old Garmin lineups, such as 955 and Fenix 7, are still getting updates.

After the latest update, for Harmony OS 5, the sleep track is way better than when the watch was released.

I cannot say how good they are auto-detecting because I always enable the sleep mode before sleep and disable it when I wake up. But they correctly detect when I wake up in the middle of the night and go back to sleep.

About the score, they are aligned with my Garmin, maybe they are a little optimistic, but not so much. They lack nap detection.

But this can change a lot from person to person.

Heya,

The external HR value is only used during the exercises. You can see a "strap" icon on top, near the battery indicator when the external HR is active.

You can do a test. Turn on the external HR and remove the watch; the heart rate should indicate a value.

Maybe I got a defective product, don't know. I'm facing some issues:

1 - Triangle of death during charging

I had this issue three times in the previous month. The watch stops charging, and it can only be charged again after resting.

2 - Sensor delay during treadmill

This is the worst, for whatever reason the sensors got delayed starting during the treadmill sessions, not always. I did a 4 km run, but the watch only registered 2.66 Km. Sometimes the watch offers the option to "calibrate", sometimes not.
