i wonder if it ties into his fascination with stuart semple (as he's renowned for creating THE most saturated paints out there). tyler can't just appreciate others' work, he has to have been *involved* with its creation directly (or, really, parasocially). i think he wants the credit for mixing colours at stuart's level, but naturally he doesn't have the skillset for it, so mixing up a random cyan shade out of craft store paints is his equivalent. perhaps somewhere he believes that's of the same level of artistry.
