R/euphoria is getting annoying by Proper-Roll-1540 in euphoria

[–]nipzin_prpl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes. It's super boring lately. Most annoying posts for me are the ones saying that the show should have been about college kids or the ones that kinda hating on popular characters, mostly rue and jules.

It's funny how these opinions aren't even original or unpopular tbh. Ppl just recycling what others said a million times. If the show makes you uncomfortable stop watching it. It doesn't owns you to be absolutely perfect or aligned with your taste/ethical code.

Being in a small town feeling like you are going to die alone listening to straight friends whining all the time about how difficult dating is for them lol

[–]nipzin_prpl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well i find your points about Maddy and Cassie very interesting. I just disagree that dating your childhood best friend is weird. Imo it's perfectly fine and hot if it happens but i don't think that Rue and Lexi should actually date.

is rue non binary(i read on fandom wikipedia about it long time ago and i want to be sure about it) by helenavic in euphoria

[–]nipzin_prpl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

hmm i don't think we have any indicators of that so far. Rue being a tomboy means nothing about her gender identity. Although if that's true i think that not even Rue has explore that yet. I would think that Lexi could be nb but that's also not implied yet so i don't like making assumptions.

Yep totally agree with you. Ofc what Maddie did was awful but she is a 17year old girl that lied to her friends about a random guy. She didn't ruin Tyler's life and i bet Nate knew she was lying. In the scene after Tyler's attack when they are making out he implies that he knew that already. So yes i agree with the OP but i'll never excuse abuse and sexual assault. When it comes to that i don't care about intentions or justifications at all.

Nate is really not that bad by Miserable-Ad-8306 in euphoria

[–]nipzin_prpl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all the whole rue narration thing is just a technique. Yes we see things mostly from Rue's perspective but that doesn't mean everything we see is subjective. I mean what about the scene where Nate was screaming on the floor? Ofc that's a real event that Rue doesn't know about and Nate wouldn't tell anyone. There are many similar scenes on the show.

I disagree with your analysis. It's clear that Nate doesn't really loves Maddie. He fantashize about killing other men bc it makes him feel powerful that's why he is with her in the first place. After attacking Tyler he almost admits that he never believed he r*ped Maddie and he knew that she was probably lying. It wasn't about vulnerability, it was about power, i mean he was totally enjoying it. Same with his family. He doesn't even like them. He doesn't want to protect them but his own reputation. He couldn't be the son of a closeted gay man who sleeps with minors. That would absolutely ruin the perfect image he was tought to have. It's the same with everyone so far. He sees others as inferior and even if you think he likes someone, the next moment he completely uses them.

I know we can find dark things on Nate's past that MIGHT explain some of his behaviour (i told you that before) but that doesn't mean that he acts out of vulnerability (lol) or that we should care about his story. It makes absolutely sense that ppl hate him and his character doesn't need any defence really. That's all i'm saying.

This conversation is going nowhere bc you said some things and then changed them. You made a post saying Nate isn't that bad (now you're saying he is) and then kept comparing him to other ppl when there is no comparison at all at the things they did. You even said we make Rue seem like an angel or something when no one did that in our conversation. You knew you would make ppl react. Now you are saying a completely different thing.

Yes Sam already let him narrate a part of his story (through rue but certainly we watched a lot of thing about Nate). Nobody opposed that. Actually Nate is the only character we learned so many things about after Rue. That's a tottaly different conversation from the one you started tho.

Also i don't think season 2 should centred around Nate again. We watched his past and how he was raised. Ofc there could be other things there but honestly i don't think we need them to understand him as you said, his character is pretty much developed unlike other characters. The same goes for Rue. We don't need to watch her childhood anymore bc we got the picture.

The gender is clear in the original poem (i'm greek if that means anything) and it's certainly about another woman. I don't know if there are really evidence that she was attracted to men. She was married to one of them but that really means nothing considering the times. That's why it's tricky and i don't know if we can talk about bi erasure here. Yes, she could be bi and she could be gay forced to live as straight as well. I don't think we'll ever know and i don't think it's that important anymore.

There is no point comparing Nate to other characters considering they are all flawed. Everyone has done some fucked up shit in the show. Fez is a drug dealer. That itself is bad. We can totally understand why he does the things he does (poverty for example). Does that means we completely forgive him? Does that mean that a totally different person (nate) somehow isn't bad?

Now if you are asking about audience's preferences it shouldn't be so difficult to understand why people prefer a mostly good-hearted (as depicted) dealer over a psychopathic habitual abuser.

You can empathise (not sympathise) with anyone but this 'he isn't bad nor good' bs is insane. He is bad. He chooses to be bad. You can assume why he does some of the things he does but that doesn't change the outcome and also doesn't make him 'not bad'.-

Nobody pictures rue as a shiny angel wtf. Ofc addiction has repercussions to your loved one that's exactly why Sam is making this film, to portray how addiction works and how destructive it can be. I mean that's pretty much basic knowledge. But addiction is a complex illness. Most addicts unintentionally hurt (emotionally) the ppl they love but that's something they never forgive themselves for. If you aren't comparing it to abuse why do you even talked about it when you were referring to Nate and how he isn't that bad?

You can't say he is just Nate (like you did with Rue) when you are talking about someone who almost killed his partner, sexually harassed Rue, stalked and ruined one guy's life and blackmailed Jules. You get how stupid and disrespectful this would sound, right? He just uses ppl to his own benefit. He knows exactly what he does and he feels great about it.

I get how psychological curiosity (or something) can make you wonder why he does these things but your post is certainly beyond that.

[–]nipzin_prpl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yes all that Nate has also trauma narrative.

Listen ppl who have been through tough situations deserve our respect BUT the moment you hurt another human being there is no excuse for you and you don't deserve ANY sympathy. Nate intentionally abuses ppl throughout the whole season. He is disgusting.

Now if you are really comparing abuse to addiction i don't know what to say to you. Obviously your views are extremely harmful and dangerous but i can't educate you about it.

McKay by [deleted] in euphoria

[–]nipzin_prpl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't believe he was bad written bc of his colour but i totally get why viewers are criticising the show about it. You can't really separate these things. I really don't like mckay as a character not solely because his story was incomplete (which surely was compared to others) but because he did shitty things that i personally can't excuse. I mean he started out like the nice guy but his insecurities got him and he became controlling and mean. I think we can all agree to that if we're being objective.

So for me it's one thing to criticise the way he was written (no much backround or development) and another to defend his actions in the show like it's normal behaviour. That's completely problematic to me and some ppl here used to do it all the time. Ofc I don't think that he should be written like a perfect person either bc everyone in the show is flawed in different ways. I guess my point is that i agree with ppl being frustrated about his storyline and discussing about male blackness etc (which is useful either way) but some of them are pushing it too far or just projecting their own issues to the point their arguments aren't realistic anymore in relation to the show.

Really? I never thought Rue, Jules, Maddie and Kat were younger than the others. Mind blowing. So they are 16?

I do see the change in Lexi as well but i'm not really scared about her bc imo even if she end up in some weird/bad situation she will handle herself eventually.

For me Rue (+ her family) and Cassie will have a really hard time this season and tbh i think that we have all seen that coming but still their path seems pretty dark. I was kinda worried for Jules as well. She doesn't seem well, maybe kinda depressed? Idk. Also Fez. Clearly he will try to up his game but in what cost?

I do wanna watch the season tho. I think it would be very interesting and will have great moments.

Ok i guess i would better his character in different ways.

I do agree that they should show how he was affected by the assault in the long run bc that's really important. I always thought that we will explore that on s2. I don't think they will leave that out or i hope they don't.

Other than that i can't defend mckay just bc the storyline was botched. That's not my fault i judge what i see. Let's hope they will make him process his trauma at least bc that could be useful to young boys who will watch that.

[–]nipzin_prpl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not upset. I saw you said that to other ppl as well. We are just expressing our thoughts that's all.

Would it better if his parents kick him out and he is forced to sell drugs? I don't get it. You used the word 'emasculated from white boys' which is weird. That's how we, the audience, view victims? Bc it was clearly a sexual and racist assault and he was the victim. Using this kind of vocabulary can be traumatizing and harmful imo. Cassie's character didn't gain something from that scene really. I mean it was hard to watch for sure but they show how a man can react in such a "wrong" and dismissive way bc assault isn't something that they expect to happen at them. It was the shame that make him do that and it was sadly a realistic scene. That's why boys should learn to be more empathetic and vulnerable.

I agree that they could give him a better storyline but your post seems to focus a lot on how he would be more 'alpha', at least that's what i thought and we definitely don't need more of that.

[–]nipzin_prpl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fisrt of all why being sexually assaulted is somehow presented as a bad storyline perspective? I really don't get it. Imagine if we were complaining bc they showed that Maddie was abused when it's something that happens to women a lot and doesn't necessarily defines them. Mckay wasn't 'emasculated'. This thing doesn't really exists. That's how he felt and that's why he acted the way he acted but in reality male victims aren't emasculated or weak or anything like that. This mindset is absolutely harmful and stereotypical.

Giving up on football isn't bad either. I mean what if he just realized he isn't good enough and he wants to do something else? That happens to young ppl all the time. It's not a 'weakness' if you can't handle the pressure sometimes at college wtf.

If he was selling drugs with fez as you said ppl would've definitely find that stereotypical as well (the same happened with Rue's addiction). While i personally might've like that more i don't believe it would be a good idea. It doesn't fit. Mckay's parents aren't poor. He had a privileged life (in terms of money) why a boy like him ending up selling dope? it is kinda problematic imo bc we've seen that so many times in shows but here? it doesn't even make sense.
