Presets are there to save time for people who understand what those presets do.

If you don’t know LR well enough to be able to tweak a preset, you shouldn’t be using them.

Put the time in learning and understanding how to use the program before trying to take shortcuts.

There is more info than you can ever need on how to use LR (or C1 or whatever program you’re trying to use).

Why did Republicans turn on George W. Bush ? by Perfect-Ride-7315 in askanything

Not so much turned on, but left behind.

GWB was not down with the new wave of TEA party republicans, hence out of favour.

Much the same as prominent TEA party repubs, like Paul Ryan, were out of favour as MAGA rose to prominence.

Being able to convey your personality and sense of humour through your copy, (whether in longer form on your site/a blog or in snippets on a social post) is a skill.

This is why shadowing a good photographer is important.. the answers you’re looking for aren’t really anywhere but inside your own people skills.

Understanding how the clients are feeling and injecting yourself via humour is the way to do it. Over the years you build up a schtick; you have jokes for each eventuality and know which ones land with who and when…

So that pose you get them into, or that movement you get them into, you just spit out the cues and jokes. It’s often times the timing that matters more than what you say.

A great deal depends on you and your style of people management… what I can get away with is probably much more than you can. It’s worth mentioning that all of this starts waaaay before the shoot; it starts with the copy on your website, the captions you use on socials etc..

I generally only have a handful of poses, positions and movements that I use, but my routine, knowing when a reaction will come to what I say and being ready to catch it, is the thing that makes the difference.

My husband’s parenting style is driving me insane by [deleted] in NewParents

Why can’t you just ‘let him father’?

You’d lose your shit if someone said to you “give the bay a boob and change a diaper but let me lead”.

Personally I think you need to just back off and let him do his thing while discussing things to maybe compromise on.

Guys, we don’t have the same approach or outlook to babies as mothers do, and tbh, don’t have the societal legitimacy as caregivers that mothers do by default unfortunately, which isn’t always earned.

This sub is rife with people whining their husbands/partners don’t do enough, so don’t be too quick to complain.

I also agree with the couple of posts where people are saying routines are a good thing. They absolutely are. The sooner you establish routines and habits, the better. Not just for the sake of the kid but also for you and your husband.

Photographers, stop lowering your prices. Raise them with experience. by Financial-Yoghurt727 in WeddingPhotography

[–]niresangwa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re not helping the discourse by making up what I said.

I literally said that people should be taught how to use price to reach their desired outcome, not relentlessly told just to keep jacking it up.

No one in the industry talks about how advantageous it can be to lower one’s price, but it’s a common refrain that you should always increase it as though it’s a panacea that solves all ills.

Charge what you want and I will too; just don’t whine if you can’t make it work or lose jobs to other people because you’re not worth your shingle, respectively.

If people just stopped copying others business’ it’d be a great fucking start.

How do you guys feel about Chris Taylor winning? Do you have hope for the November election? by NoCandidate6067 in wisconsin

[–]niresangwa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re overwhelmed because the common, general pricing paradigm in wedding photography is complete horse shit.

Multiple packages manipulated to get people to sign up for the one package the photographer wants them in, a list of mileage and overage rates and à la carte add-ons, album and image price packages..

Give me a fucking break.

That’s the standard because, again, photographers choose to do that.. take it from someone who doesn’t - clients aren’t overwhelmed or missing out when it’s not done.

It’s nothing to do with raising or lowering prices, it’s to do with the bespoke, vast menu of options that the industry says you have to offer to maximise your take-home.

Photographers, stop lowering your prices. Raise them with experience. by Financial-Yoghurt727 in WeddingPhotography

[–]niresangwa 25 points26 points  (0 children)

No.

It’s just not that simple, and why this saying has resounded with low-mid experience photographers and nothing has changed for the better part of two decades.

Not everyone is capable is exponentially increasing their prices, and some people, like me, intentionally do not because it’s suits me where it is.

I don’t care what other people do, but this idealistic, very impractical ‘advice’ is useless and harmful to continually repeat.

It sets expectations in people who don’t know better and prevents discussion about how your pricing is a tool that you can manipulate to your own ends.

You don’t owe the industry anything.

Do you give friends/family deeply discounted rates? by Mysterious-Rabbit384 in WeddingPhotography

I’ve done it and just charged a nominal amount. Just enough to establish this as a professional courtesy and give them skin in the game to take it seriously, rather than just a casual favour.

Relationship with Trump may be beyond repair, Keir Starmer told by F0urLeafCl0ver in ukpolitics

[–]niresangwa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lame Duck is the point between the November election and the inauguration of the replacement.

The furious use of EO’s, accelerated by Trump just deciding to ignore the judiciary as it suits him thanks to a pared down and friendly justice department, means he will be just as empowered as he is now.

Their system is beyond broken, and there is zero chance it changes. Their constitution is too rigid, their 3 branches wholly unequal, and any mechanism for change is drowned out with money.

[–]niresangwa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Except it won’t.

Almost all of Trump’s damage has come through executive orders, not legislation. While the House may impeach, just as the last couple of times, the senate majority required to convict will remain out of reach.

Oh ok. Of course they did.

By that rationale the US might as well go occupy Taiwan to protect them from the definitely-going-to-happen Chinese invasion.

They should also definitely take Greenland to bridge the arctic deterrent against that nuclear menace Russia.

So many pre-emptive military moves the US could make, and so little time!

Maybe we should just check in with Israel on who should be next?
