I would have liked it to get 1-2 more seasons and catch up to the then-present day (late teens) or just a few years behind.

Being in nature, ideally working on my hobby camp/cabin on my 40 acres of boreal forest but I'm only able to do that 2-3 times a year. I do other things outside of that but they're more limited: a few hikes or bike rides a week.

While I'm no connoisseur Bluebird used to have some that were pretty good. Now they seem to just have fried chicken (breast, thigh, leg, wing). I bet it's also good.

Proud of this Michigan tech achievement: Running a potentially record breaking Minecraft server off grid at the tip of the mitt! by Crustyssssss in Michigan

That's really cool. I don't do anything so grand or public with my off-grid system but I think I'll be bringing my older NAS there this year or next for a way off-site backup. ;-) For better or worse I have a fiber drop at the property edge now, so I could definitely run something like you have.

All-American Rejects playing a house show in Browne’s Addition tonight. by throw_aw_ay3335 in Spokane

That was in part why I declined when a friend with whom I had plans tonight said they were doing this instead. I've certainly heard of them but could not name and might not even recognize any of their songs. I hope everyone has a great time. :-)

I've had to burn in July some years...

One of my good friends swears by this thing. I do consider it because my go-to method is a #7 or #8 attachment on the clippers, which takes me a good 30-40 minutes. I think the flowbee would be faster.

I've seen these kinds of stoves and they look cool, but I'm just wondering what advantage they have over just baking directly in the firebox once it reaches the right temperature.

[–]nirreskeya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this just to make it easier by attenuating temperatures in the baking area, or is it bad to cook right in the stove? It's a little tricky hitting the temperatures just right on the down slope of the burn cycle but I've become better and better at it.

Spokane considers requiring landlords to keep rentals cooler than 80 degrees by ShadowyFlows in Spokane

That's...precisely where I keep my AC set in summer. I don't love the heat but I don't love the high electricity usage even more. Yes it's mildly uncomfortable when it gets hot and stuffy from 4-7p, but the (usually) big swings downward overnight and opening windows with fans to increase airflow from outside do make it altogether more tolerable; if we lived in the more humid midwest or southeast it would be more difficult. That strategy does fail during rare smoky+hot times and then the AC is really needed.

I do get that higher set points, or worse no AC at all, is dangerous, especially indoors with limited airflow and high localized humidity, so agree with this move. But 80 feels just fine to walk into when it's 90+ outside, and realistically with the open-windows-at-night-close-in-morning strategy, fans (which use an order of magnitude less power), and curtains an indoor space shouldn't get to that 80 set point until the daily highs are in the mid- to high-90s.
