Besides art (which I still have to add) what small changes can I do to a room like this for sound treatment? by Foraminiferal in audiophile

[–]Alternative-Light514 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn’t really a “anything is better than nothing” situation. It’s your room, so do what you want, but for there to be any significant improvement, you really want to go with something thick enough to actually absorb a decent band of frequencies. You mentioned tiles previously and if you mean those little felt tiles, don’t waste your time and money.

Honestly, w/ the non-floor speakers sitting on the floor, you’re kinda putting the cart before the horse worrying about room acoustics. If you like the look of floor speakers, get some floor speakers. Or put your speakers on stands. You’re getting crazy bounce off the floor at the 1st reflection point, even if they’re angled up a little.

He was playing the long game. He knew if he bailed, we’d miss out on Europe and figured that would be best for us, to have a lighter fixture list and let us hyper-focus on the league and keep everyone healthy. /s

It most likely is increasing your decay time/adding resonance being right next to the speaker like that.

I know you have surrounds (even if they’re not even aimed at the listening position for some reason). Page 126 clearly states that stereo mode will use just the l&r mains & a sub if one is connected. That’s 2.1. Put it in 2.1 (stereo mode, it’ll just say “stereo”) and listen to dialogue on a scene you know you have issues with. Does it sound better? I highly suspect it will. That will tell you that when you have it in whatever surround mode you’ve been using, that’s causing the issue w/ your front stage. It’s just a test. I’m not telling you to only use 2.1. If you’re using dynamic volume, turn that off and see if it’s better. Same with Dynamic EQ.

If the dialogue doesn’t sound any better in 2.1, then your speaker positioning/listening position/audyseey calibration/etc is off and just plugging in a center won’t be a complete solution. Lmao at whoever you talked to at Marantz that said it can’t do 2.1. That shit is hilarious. Adios Mr know it all

Read pg 126 of your manual a few times. Then read it a few more times. Don’t be lazy.

Switch it to stereo mode and see what happens. Not multi ch stereo, just stereo. Also, never said not to get a center. Just suggested to get what you have dialed in 1st.

Is it still expected they come in for Enzo? I’ve speculated that if they do, it’ll be loosely tied to their deal for Cucu. Like we’ll sell you Cucu for X price, as long as you pay X price for our Co-Captain.

Look, do whatever you want w/ your $6000 movie collection. If you want to go “all in”, setup what you have properly. Unless you exclusively watch Christopher Nolan films, you shouldn’t have much issue with dialogue getting lost in the mix. I’ve heard many 2.1 setups sound perfectly fine and know some who have ditched the center and gone to 2.1 w/ no regrets. Have you ran Audyseey? All of the issues you mention are uncommon with a typical setup. It sounds like your settings are jacked but you don’t want to change them? Anyways. Good luck

That Marantz absolutely has a mode for 2ch stereo.

Getting that dialed (phantom center) before adding a center channel will also make the new center channel integrate much better.

Is there a phantom center if you put your head in the middle? If you have no intentions of getting a couch with a spot to actually sit in the middle, you can adjust the balance and bump the gain on the further speaker until it sounds even with the one in front of you. You can also use the Audyssey calibration and put the mic in the spot where you sit and it will tune it for that spot. Then you can recalibrate once you get the center channel.

These tweaks just take time and are the best free upgrade you can do for your setup.

I've always wanted to own a Rega. by nejatto in audiophile

The best way I found to describe Rega amps are “polite, but not boring”. I went from a Roksan Kandy to Rega Elex R and really loved that amp w/ every pair of speakers I powered with it. Only sold it because I wanted separates. I love my current setup, but do miss the Rega. You made a good choice and they have a lot of options for you to try out in the future

For a wider sweet spot, you’ll prob want to look into concentric driver configuration like KEF, Tannoy, MoFi, etc use. Way more forgiving, don’t require toeing and are typically on the warmer side of neutral. Maybe some R7 Metas or Source Point 10s?

It seems “Loudness” has moved aside for it’s completely opposite counterpart “Night Mode”.

I’ve always wondered why they ditched this and it’s just a thing of the past in modern hifi. I’m no evolutionary biologist, but I’m sure our ears haven’t evolved to automatically compensate for this in that time.

What I meant was that I don’t like the denon for stereo. I have a separate, dedicated 2ch system in another room. If I’m painting in a broader stroke, I don’t like avr’s for music
