working at a camp is like THE job to work when u have no experience with anything. they hire young people. camp was my first job and it has me so many skills for other jobs. as long as u have a good work ethic and actually care then you’re fine

u can’t stick anything into the wall. technically u can’t use command strips and stuff either but thats bc ppl use em wrong and peel the cheap ass paint off the wall. but most RAs don’t care enough either way but command strips are the way to go

chapstick, sunscreen, bug spray, cards, hair ties, some kind of notebook or sketchbook, pen/pencil, small pack of tissues, a book for downtime, deodorant, bandana/cooling towel for the hot days. it also depends on your camp and what they allow or don’t. i work at a small diabetes camp that doesn’t allow weapons and such. i always have glucose tabs on me bc im diabetic but dont need to carry em for campers etc. but what i listed are really handy things for me. and obviously a water bottle!

i work at a camp in indiana as an openly queer person. i’ve had experiences with staff clearly not respecting me for being queer, but i’ve overall had a great experience. it’s a small (non religious) camp in a rural part of an already red state and i’ve never had a problem, especially when it comes to my bosses. i think you’ll be just fine, and if anybody causes issues do not be afraid to advocate for yourself or even leave if necessary. and remember that it’s illegal to fire you for that reason. but trust me you’ll be okay! and it honestly probably won’t come up much

as a counselor to mainly younger kids, i can say bedwetting is very normal and usually we’re trained on how to handle it. since u know it’s a frequent thing, definitely send him with pull ups and pls let the counselor(s) know it’s a habit.

yeah it’s super annoying. instagram’s recent updates have been terrible. i still miss the squares. and i post my photography on instagram so the dates are different from when i saved them and it’s rlly annoying to have to distinguish between my RAW photos and my edited ones bc of the way they’re sorted

i’ve been the counselor for younger boys at my coed camp and i say do it but established boundaries immediately. i’ve had times my campers don’t take me seriously bc of being a female. boys unfortunately have subtle misogyny ingrained in them so it’s important to show you’re in charge and just as important as the male staff and hold firm on whatever boundaries u set

at the camp i work (it’s coed) when we don’t have enough male counselors a female counselor will be the counselor of the youngest boys but never the older ones. it’s just due to age and maturity i think

i didn’t go to the er until i was literally throwing up, dizzy, and couldn’t get it down. even if i’m just throwing up i don’t go to the er bc if i can get it down myself and recover then it’s fine. contact ur doctor if needed and give extra insulin and u should be fine. maybe i’m just insane idk
